@Tasha
Hey, I didn't write the statistics, I just found them. The site seems legit... just because the statistic seems scary doesn't mean it cannot be true. Unless there is someone who has done the research and compiled the facts themselves these sites and statistics are our best bet. :dunno

Ermm, no need to get defensive. I'm just saying, 1 in 15 sounds EXTREMELY high for a pregnancy rate from rape. It's not a "scary" statistic...the frequency of rape IS. I'm not a "stick my head in the sand" kind of girl...but I don't believe that 1 in 15 rapes result in a pregnancy.

It sounded high to me as well
To be honest..I just think a chart was made without any research going into it.
She thought it was a reliable source....it happens

So report it then go hold a sign?
I could see how the reporting could help as it would aid in catching the attacker.
But holding a sign will help reduce her chance how???
Your stats stated a very high repeat rate..so wouldnt her sign being saying.."I am rape-able" therefore increasing her chances for another attack
People have been stating its not the clothes/ but the probability of the most success..that power thing that has been harped for pages on end.

#1 "she was asking for it" = a wide spread mentality that says a rape victim deserved to be raped = rape victim is ashamed and doesn't report crime = rapist gets away with it and continues raping (the same person or others) = cycle continues

#2 red haired girl holding sign = trying to raise public awareness that people not dressed slutty can be raped too = getting people to realize no one is "asking for it" = change public mindset = rape victim doesn't feel as judged by society = willingness to report rape = catching rapist

... ok, this is the most I can simplify it.... :willy_nilly:

No
As the "other stats"...claim babies and women in their 90s also to be a rather large percentage..then guys being raped by guys..women being raped by women etc...after we deduct all those no one is left to get pregnant

15:1=100:x
15x=100
x=100/15
x=6.67

You mean 6.67% is too high?

There is no widespread mentality that she asked for it....and if so how is holding a sign going to reduce that?

Dis you miss my post about looking at the finger?...the girl is a guy.
But anyway how is him holding a sign that essentially people not slutty dressed {as you put it} can be raped to/ going to reduce the amount of rapes?
Oh...by making them feel more comfortable about the rape as you imply.
Then why not hold a sign that says...Dont be ashamed if you were raped/ report it?
Wouldnt this be much easier and much more effective?

Yes...you can break it down however you want, it STILL sounds too high TO ME. You're taking offense like you researched the statistics personally or something. :dunno

Yes there is. The thread was started because of it. That mentality is the subject of this whole discussion.

Just because a thread was started about it doesn't make it true...the results of the thread show that..she doesnt ask for it because of how she was dresses.

And the whole reason behind SlutWalk where the picture of the girl holding the sign had her picture taken.

But for some reason,The Man thinks it's a guy.:dunno:

I am not offended. I just don't think 6.67% is that extremely high. :dunno
have you removed the men on men rapes/ the women on women rapes.the child rapes/the elderly rapes etc from the the percent of rape victims...this will leave a smaller percentage that can actually get pregnant {capable women}
The we have many many woman on birth control or have other issues as well.
The guy would have to plant his seed.
She would have to pass on the morning after pill...blah blah...isnt much left
My guess would be 1 in 150

"Rape Related Pregnancy: How Common is It?

Some statistics report that conception as a result of rape occurs in less than one percent of cases, while other studies indicate higher figures such as 4.7%. Rape-related Pregnancy may be more widespread than we know - many women are understandably reluctant to talk about it. Common contexts for conception in rape are war and domestic violence settings"

The morning after pill:

"The use of synthetic estrogens as a post coital contraceptive was discovered by Dr. John McLean Morris in 1966.[SUP][54][/SUP][SUP][55][/SUP] A few different drugs were studied, with a focus on high-dose estrogens, and it was originally hoped that postcoital contraception would prove viable as an ongoing contraceptive method.[SUP][56][/SUP]The first widely used methods were five-day treatments with high-dose estrogens, using diethylstilbestrol (DES) in the US and ethinyl estradiol in the Netherlands.[SUP][57][/SUP][SUP][58][/SUP]
In the early 1970s, the Yuzpe regimen was developed by AA Yuzpe (1974);[SUP][59][/SUP] progestin-only postcoital contraception was investigated (1975);[SUP][60][/SUP] and the copper IUD was first studied for use as emergency contraception (1975).[SUP][61][/SUP] Danazol was tested in the early 1980s in the hopes that it would have fewer side effects than Yuzpe, but was found to be ineffective.[SUP][62][/SUP]
The Yuzpe regimen became the standard course of treatment for postcoital contraception in many countries in the 1980s. The first prescription-only combined estrogen-progestin dedicated product, Schering PC4 (ethinylestradiol and norgestrel), was approved in the UK in January 1984 and first marketed in October 1984.[SUP][63][/SUP] Schering introduced a second prescription-only combined product, Tetragynon (ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel) in Germany in 1985.[1] By 1997, Schering AG dedicated prescription-only combined products had been approved in only 9 countries: the UK (Schering PC4), New Zealand (Schering PC4), South Africa (E-Gen-C), Germany (Tetragynon), Switzerland (Tetragynon), Denmark (Tetragynon), Norway (Tetragynon), Sweden (Tetragynon) and Finland (Neoprimavlar); and had been withdrawn from marketing in New Zealand in 1997 to prevent it being sold over-the-counter.[2][3][4] Regular combined oral contraceptive pills (which were less expensive and more widely available) were more commonly used for the Yuzpe regimen even in countries where dedicated products were available.[SUP][64]"
