It looks like the only person who knows exactly what happened in the crucial time is Zimmerman. There are no witnesses to how things started, only speculation.

And a girlfriend on the phone with Martin who heard part of the beginning of the confrontation

I'm not so sure I believe that what she describes says that much about what actually happened. If you look at the actual 911 call of Zimmerman and what Martin's girlfriend claims all you get is both these guys were suspicious of one another. That's all. What actually happened is still speculation.

Her story gets a lot of credibility by the timeline, however. The phone records are detailed to the minute and when put together with the 911 calls, it's clear she was on the phone with him as the confrontation began, and mere moments before he was shot.

one of the things they should be focusing on is some ground rules so this will be less likely to happen again

maybe if neighbourhood watch actually complied with 911 operators wishes, when they report something and are asked not to pursue, that would be a start

HA! What a concept. We'd have 1 less dead teenager, 1 less guy in jail, and 7 less pissing match threads if this had happened.

Just to set it straight for those who have issues.
George Zimmerman is not white Caucasian or even close.
Dude is Hispanic mixed. Look at his freaking picture. I've been seeing stuff on the net of people trying say he is white.
Screw that. The dude is guilty for one cause he didn't follow the law telling him to stay put. He was wanting to get into confrontation where it was not his job nor authority to.
I don't care what the other dude was doing. It doesn't make it right for George to involve himself that far. He made a situation worse with his actions.

The Prosecutor must trust her. Her testimony was identified as one of the key elements that led to the filing of charges and GZ's arrest.

And from the account I read, she DID hear GZ and TM's conversation - at least he beginning of it, until his phone was dropped and broken and went dead.

The prosecutor doesnt have to trust her...its whether or not they can use her to build a case.

I agree here. Her testimony is only what she CLAIMS was said. Besides it still doesn't explain exactly what happened. Even the 911 operator saying "we don't need you to do that"(follow him) isn't an order not to follow Martin. If it was an order they should have said "do not follow him". Even at the end of that call I don't remember hearing Zimmerman acknowledge he even heard what the operator said. Zimmerman may have dropped his phone after the 911 operator asked if he was following Martin and Zimmerman answered. Alot here depends on what Zimmerman has to say. He really hasn't had a chance to talk because of the lynch mobs and the media. But if he is guilty he should be sentenced. At this point I really don't think it is possible for him to get a fair trial.

The media has convicted Zimmerman already that's for sure. Maybe he can get a fair trial. If he had OJ's money he could afford a trial that would go in his favor for sure. If he goes free I wonder if any Latinos will celebrate like those did when OJ walked after murdering two people.
