When one commits murder, or rape/sodomy, they know that there will ultimately be consequences for their actions. There are certain crimes that are mandated to be "Crimes against nature".....and any of those can be punishable by death in my opinion....there would be a lot less sick fucks in the world. As well as heartless, cruel, cold and calculated murderers, push them to the front of the line as well.
no there wouldn't. There will always be a lot of them.

This debate is going nowhere....you think the death penalty is wrong, and you're entitled to your opinion. Fine. I feel the way that I feel because of what I have to deal with working with inmates the way that I do. Just to give you something to think about though.....90% of them are never sorry they did what they did, and would do it again if given the chance. I can say that because I listen to their private conversations with other inmates, I listen when they manipulate the system by telling their counselors that they are "depressed" and in turn get things handed to them. You may as well give someone a gun and say "Please, murder my family then I'll let you go free!"

Ok, well:

Murderers murder - they do not give their victims the chance of an appeal as to whether or not it should be done to them!

paedophilles molest in the sickest form there is and often murder their victims - they do not give their victims the chance of an appeal as to whether or not it should be done to them!

Rapists rape & often murder their victim too - they do not give their victims the chance of appeal, as to whether or not it should be done to them!

Do you see the pattern here at all?

They definately have to lose any 'rights'.

They don't let their victims have their rights, or let them get away with it, so why the hell should they?

I just believe that it is a very BAD idea for the state to have the ability to say who can die and who can live. Being in prison isn't coddling them at all.

Oh, but it isn't a "BAD idea" for the murderers, rapists, Paedo's to choose who they kill or not?

Why would you commit murder knowing the consequences?

I bet if your child was raped and murdered you would be singing a different tune.

Precisely^^^^^^^^ They know the consequences then have the even sicker mind to feel justified in trying to squirm their evil minds out of the punishment they knew well in advance would happen by doing it?

No-one in their right mind would then be so 'understanding' if it were their children/husbands/wives/ or any other relatives. I agree with what you say there Evan.

No, don't be ridiculous. A kidnapper usually kidnaps for a reason, which is against the law. We put him away for breaking the law, which isn't kidnapping when you consider that he gets to go through due process to appeal to the courts, he has a fair chance, which he didn't give to his victims. That isn't hypocritical.

This is exactly hypocrytical - re-read the beginning of this post of mine......so it's OK for a kidnapper cos he is worse than a rapist, Paedo, murderer? He deserves the punishment to justify what he did (which of course he does), but not the rest of them listed above?

Even criminals need to be protected, as much as you may not like that. Its just the way things work.

No they do not need to be, nor deserve to be protected from the exact fear and horror they have placed on innocent victims, taking away their protection they had a right to have and didn't get to have!......

hey, why not just cut out the court part and just line them all up against a wall! :clap

Yes, why not? They didn't go through the deserving or not panel did they, to do what they did to their victims?

I'm not saying the military is a bad thing. It is necessary. I'm just pointing out that war is almost a necessary evil at times, where its basically legalized murder. That doesn't mean I can't sympathize with people that were told to go and fight. Its not like they have a choice.
All state mandated murder is barbaric in the sense that I think its disgusting that we try to show our society that murder is wrong by murdering them back. Its ridiculous. The state and a small group of individuals should not have the power to decide who lives, and who dies.[/quote]

Right - neither did all those, raped, murdered or abused by paedo's, have a choice either!!!!!!

Ok, so why is it OK then for a murderer, rapist, paedo etc, to decide who lives, who dies, who is destroyed for the rest of their lives if they are 'lucky' (and I use that word loosely, for want of a better word) enough to live afterwards?

He makes the decision to kill, the state makes the decision to kill him back out of the MANY choices they could make, so yes, they make the decision, the criminal makes the stupid choice to take someone's life.

Now you even lessen the murderer's decision to murder - to call it a "stupid" choice, the murderer had choices not to do it - yet he chose to go ahead - that is BARBARIC, inhumane in my book!

Look at the countries below the USA in that list that don't have the death penalty. This list just proves my point that the death penalty isn't a preventative measure to prevent murder. Thanks for backing that up!:clap

If you wanna look at it from the Christian perspective, the Bible says Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth, etc....

Actually that makes no sense to me. Someone else here summed this up perfectly. Under this logic the best way to go and punish someone who raped your daughter is to go out and rape his daughter too.

The Death Penalty was put in place as a form of Capital Punishment for the very worst of offenders. I'm all for it. I say that they should be put to death expediently. What I am still failing to understand is how there are still people that think that inmates are to be treated as you and I are treated. They are NOT like you and I! They have committed crimes, and should be punished! If a man comes home from work one day and decided to murder his family just because he's not happy about the quality of his life, and then proceeds to douse his wife and children and set them all on fire, HE DESERVES TO DIE! (There was an inmate at the prison I work at that did this) He's now sitting on Death Row with an execution date set for the middle of January.....27 YEARS after he committed that horrible crime!

Obviously everyone here has good arguments about why the Death Penalty should or should not be used. Either way the US will always be overrun with criminals because we can't objectively decide how to deal with crime in this country.

eye for an eye notion is old testament ,jesus said that was done with he was the new covenant and to ignore all that stuff.being old testament ofcourse its why it also appears in radical muslim thought on punishment, and we know how barbaric they are in saudi etc.

at best its not about religion its about decency .

I'm done with this thread, I don't see any reasons to continue beating my points to death.

Murder is murder is murder is murder. It doesn't matter who does it, its murder. But hey, if you want to say its ok just because the "good guys" are doing it, then by all means, continue telling yourselves that. Have a good day.

Jesus did not say to ignore the Old Testament. Jesus was very clear in that he did not come to abolish the old law but to perfect it.

That's a shame you gave in AEF - the whole point of a debate, is for those involved, to air their points of view, without getting annoyed, without getting personal to others (which happens at times) and to be allowed the point of view and to ask what is what with different views, that's all.

If everyone agreed with everyone in the world, there would never be debates. :)

Some people can't accept that others have different points of view without being ugly and putting other's down; it's intolerance. Others can't disagree while still learning from one another and continuing to be friends. Personally, I don't care to 'debate' per say as that always seems to just get mean spirited somehow, someway. I prefer to just discuss things and put relationship ahead of trying to 'make the other person agree me'. Posts aren't going to change anything in this world, but relationships can and will.

Yeah that was totally offtopic - but it was on my heart so :p

LOL Thanks for that laugh. You sir are an eternal optimist!!

A few minor corrections though.... You said the U.S. has one of the highest murder rates in the world. This is factually untrue. The U.S. murder rate of 0.004% is statistically insignificant.

Secondly, though we do have the legal death penalty here, it is in word only for all intents and purposes. It is so seldom used; that you cannot make the case that the fear of it is having any effect. If it were used more often, the fear deterance of it would possibly come into effect.

Thirdly, which countries below the U.S. do and do not use the death penalty, and how often do they employ it? Do you see any surprising names down there that use it ALL the time? Why do you suppose that is? ;)

You continue to amaze me...I've noticed a pattern with you. If someone says something that you don't like, you batter back and forth awhile til they get your goat then you jump ship. Like Free said, the whole point of a debate is to get everyone's opinions out there and not to get angry and do the virtual "foot stomping" like a spoiled child.

But oh well, just as well that you're done debating. I was sick of trying to get someone to see my point that can't even get past their own nose.....

Ok, I stand corrected there, that wasn't the point I was trying to make though. I was pointing out that the death penalty dosen't prevent murders which is precisely what the figures you quotes back up.

when did they "get my goat"? Like i said before, all of you are just stating the same thing over and over again, its not worth responding to the same thing dozens of times. Come up with something new if you want to continue. Don't get so fussy.

I can't really help repeating myself when all everyone does here is say the same buzz-words and various clone-statements that other have said already.
