I wouldn't go so far as to say they're delusional, but imo deities are false hope to an 'eternal' bliss.

Believing in something that cannot be proven, documented, tested, recorded, or be provided with physical evidence usually falls into the "delusional" category. I'm sure you would call someone who claims to be in contact with a alien mothership delusional. But, the term delusional isnt an insulting thing really.

But then again, we are ALL delusional in some way.

Do you believe you're going to get married some day?

for people to depend on getting married and having kids and being together with their hubby forever and ever is a delusion these days.

but in all fairness, all else failed did admit the term delusion can be applied to a bunch of things

shit, i wonder if someone will bring in the probability argument and intelligent design and whatnot.

i almost feel guilty about wanting to argue so badly.

That is different. The chances of me getting married are much better than there ever being a magical man in the sky. Its all about probability.

That is not different. You believe that you may get married - but you have no documented proof of the future. Some believe that there may be a god - but they have no documented proof of this.

So your athiestic views come from probability of something existing.

Keep in mind here, I'm not arguing with you, I actually find that very interesting.

you mught be delusional for thinking you'll get married.

you might be delusional for thinking you'll wake up tomorrow.

theres no proof. its just the definition of the term. dont take offense, go back to the morality of believing. NAZIS! KKK! PASCALS WAGER! CONDEMNING HOMOSEXUALS!

I think our animalistic drive for mating is evidence enough to make getting married not THAT delusional.

Atheistic views come from the notion of casting aside the belief of a diety, not the probablility of it.

a bunch of people believe in intelligent design because our state of nature is so beautiful and perfect its statistically impossible to come about this way.

theres a difference between assessing the probability of something about to occur and something that has already occured. take any random hand in poker, back calculate the odds of getting that exact hand and it will be ridiculous. but that doesnt matter, the whole hand was arbitrary anyway.

"...imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, 'This is an interesting world I find myself in, an interesting hole I find myself in, fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!' This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and as, gradually, the puddle gets smaller and smaller, it's still frantically hanging on to the notion that everything's going to be alright, because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it; so the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise. I think this may be something we need to be on the watch out for."

now i (and douglas adams) just compared believing in intelligent design to a puddle.

memento, about your post today at 7:14. im not solipsist or whatever that word was because i was talking about YOUR perspective. i purposely didnt mention other perspectives because people would obviously remember you. i was merely saying that from your point of view you wouldnt exist, not that nobody would remember you.

Foamy, I was commenting about your comment. I'm sure you aren't familiar with solipsism and maybe don't believe in it, i was just commenting on the solipsist implications of saying theres only the superbeings memories of us and if it doesnt we dont exist.

now we're on puddles, nazis, scared children, delusions- fun stuff.

I wish there was such a thing as a talking, scared, delusional puddle that was favorable to national socialism. I would sell tickets for people to see it.

You can mate without marriage - that's one of 100 reasons I'm opposed to religion, especially organized religion.

A deity gives us free will and the urge to reproduce, but we can't act on it without sinning, but then go to hell without repenting? Give me a break.
