I have mixed feelings about River, I like the idea of the Doctor having someone out there who he actually has sex with for once :p but her as a character, I don't really want her to be there for every adventure.

I hope he finds a version of her that isn't the current version/Melanie and they go travelling and have a life (where she doesn't know everything that's going to happen. It's new for the both of them) but I just don't think it's possible because of what happened last series.

Yeah, that's true.
They've basically filled in how she meets the Doctor and how her life ends - so there's no way he can meet her at any point in time now without her having some memory of him.

And she can't regenerate - even if she hadn't given him all her lives, they've still established that she dies looking like she does now anyway!

Fingers crossed for some hot guy who isn't another Captain Jack (ie. as straight as a corkscrew) next series!

Oh yes I agree. For the reasons you've said, they've really backed themselves into a corner about what her character can and cannot do. Though that said
we know she went from the little girl at end of episode two who regenerated. She could have turned into Melanie after that regeneration (unlikely as Amy and Rory must have been at school in the 80s/90s, Mel aged with them and the girl regnerated in late 1960s) or perhaps she regenerated into someone different that we don't know (I think this is quite possible She could have regenerated into someone else, made her way to England then rengenerated so she'd be the same age as her parents).

Though I have loads of issues with the Mel character in general. How did she know they were her parents? Where did Mel live? Who did she live with? Who supported her fiancially? Who registered her at school/went to parent's evenings/went in everytime she was in trouble? It can't be the Doctor as she wanted to kill him.

Well, apparently Amy and Rory will be leaving in the next season.

Mixed feelings about it, I have a lot of love for Rory now but I guess there's only so much you can now they've been in it for two series.

I really liked the Christmas Special :) they're sometimes a bit hit and miss for me, but it really worked for me (hence the Doctor's quote being my signature now).

I'm re-watching series 5 and 6 now and something weird occurred to me -
in the episode with the dreamlord, Amy's Choice, where Rory dies and she kills herself and the Doctor to wake them up, she says that she never told Rory she loved him. Is it just me who thinks it's a little strange that they managed to get to the night before their wedding without her ever saying she loved him?

Some peope are wierd about love and saying it though.

Watched Blue Peter today and they are running a Doctor Who competition for Primary School kids. I am really disapointed Imogen isn't older so I could "help" her write an episode *sob*

I was a bit skeptical about this Doctor, but of the new ones I think he's the best one, seems to me his mannerisms pay homage to earlier Doctors more than any. And Karen Gillan in that police woman's outfit...drool. OK, Karen Gillan in or out of anything makes me greatly appreciative of the estrogen-flavored. Probably the only one of the recent companions I'll be sorry to see go.

I've heard talk of a movie deal, but it doesn't involve any of the current cast. Personally, I think it would be cool to reprise Paul McGann's Doctor and actually show the Time War with the Daleks.

Well, there are multiple references to this Time War in the new series, and apparently the Doctor played by Paul McGann regenerated into the one played by Chris Eccleston (who makes a really cool John Lennon, BTW) at the end of said war.

Personally I think it would be cool to see the darker side of the Doctor, one capable of mass slaughter of Daleks to the point that he's the only Time Lord left. There's plenty of room for some awesome story writing there.

Absolutely no fucking way should Lily Allen ever be anywhere near Doctor Who unless it's as a 'funny' guest cameo.

Oh yeah I want to see him travelling with a male. Or if it is a female, I want a companion like Donna who:
  • isn't in love with the Doctor
  • doesn't hero worship the Doctor
  • isn't bringing along family/boyfriend
  • can stand up to the Doctor
I do not want it to be River Song. I can't be the only one who is getting just a little bit sick of River Song.

Oh god no!
Not another Donna, I hated the shit out of her!
So stronk independent woman but stupid as dicks, nope just infuriates me.

The whole love companion thing is getting a bit old though, yeah.
That black girl with Tennant wasn't that bad though, was she?
Don't think she was all lovey-dovey with him either.

Not really sure what to feel about the fact that it's not too long until we'll start to see season 7.
Had this one friend who got me into the series and if we didn't watch it together, we always discussed it.

We had a falling out not too long ago though:|
Will feel quite weird to watch it on my own.

Just started watching the newer episodes a few weeks ago. Love it.

No, she's pretty bad. Not as bad as Rose. But Martha whines ever time the Doctor mentions Rose. And the episodes with the Family of Blood, she kept saying "If he had to fall in love with a human, why couldn't it be me?" Granted, I'm not done with her episodes so she might get better as time goes on.

That bad?
I had a bigass marathon of the first five seasons in like a month or two so most of it is just a big mush by now, almost a year later.
I supposed I liked the fact that she wasn't completely useless.

As I recall it though, later on her character gets worse.
Not going to spoil it or anything, but I can say it's in the very latest stages.

Martha was my least favourite companion. Too whiny. And it was unfair on her I know, because the Doctor had no idea how she felt, or perhaps didn't want to know, and so he was never very tactful about her role in his life, but I just didn't like the whole unrequited love thing straight after him and Rose.

Catherine Tate was my favourite. Only companion who didn't want to fuck the Doctor. I might think she's crazy :p but it was refreshing.

I rather enjoyed Donna Noble, especially because she was derpy and somehow managed to save the day (end of the series) with her rash actions.
