For the record, I am a Christian... however, I do not consider myself to be religious by any stretch of the imagination. I'm also a Libertarian, so I am most decidedly not "right wing".

Once again, I wasn't trying to group all pro lifers in that camp..Just the majority.

I am pro-choice but personally, I wouldn't have an abortion becuase I couldn't bring myself to do it..

I think it should be up to the couple to decide whether or not they can have a child or should. However, I think ultimately the woman should have the final say. She's the one who is pregnant and who will bring the child to term and while I have no doubt that fathers feel something for their unborn child, I do think it is different for a mother who has the child in her.

I, personally, don't agree with women who use abortion as a form of birth control. Shut your legs or use protection but at the end of the day, I'd rather they had an abortion than raised a child they don't want and where the child suffers for it. Sometimes it is the best of two evils.

Well I know that I would feel a lot more for any child of mine than a lot of mothers I see around. I remember the first time my missus miscarried. We were up the hospital in the maternaty unit and there was some pregnant young girl, two kids hanging off her who she told to "fuck off" every 5 minutes and outside smoking at every opportunity. It really pissed me off that someone could be like that.

I know what you are saying (I see that all the fucking time) but you get a lot of fathers like that too. Where I live, I see so many dads acting the feckless dads on Jeremey Kyle refusing to do anything for their child. Most of my friends are single mothers becuase they either don't know their baby's father becuase they slept with that many people in a month or becuase he's fucked off becuase he wants nothing do it with it. Even though the mothers might be awful, they don't normally abandon the child completely like some fathers do.

It pisses me off too though. Like there is one teenage mother who I went to school with who is a God awful parent, can't control her children (she's pregnant with her third and is only 18), just starts screaming at them in public which can lead to her getting pretty rough with them and going out getting every single night to go get drunk and fuck someone becuase she wants loads of children so she never has to work. Her daughter who is about the same age as mine almost got run over the other day becuase she was playing alone in the road. A 2 year old playing in the road alone becuase the mother just wanted to sit on her arse in the living room watching tv.
And then she has the audacity to call me a bad mother because I'm at college to get an eduation and becuase I tell Imogen off when she is naughty.

I don't have a uterus, so I don't have the right to an opinion. It's like if I held a firm stance on cornrows or afros. Not my game.

I'm pro abortion to the maximum permissable time. Personally, its the womans choice for me and...until the baby is born....its all her choice

That's a pretty ridiculous comment. People who don't own guns can't have opinions on the 2nd Amendment? People who have never been in the military can't have an opinion on the wars? Of course they can, there's no prerequisite for having an opinion on something, whether it effects you or not.

Having direct experience in the topic being debated doesn't matter on the internet :p

Your wife was raped at knife point while you worked a few extra hours at work. She gets pregnant.

Do you tell her to shut the fuck up and not be a hypocrite? To account for the same with the life you're trying to fuck with?

Debate that.

But there is no 100% effective contraception, without having sex. Unless we should all stop having sex until a better contraception is made or people want children?

A couple could be using protection against pregnancy and still it happens. Why should they be forced to have a child they don't want?

You see to me, that would entirely be up to the woman. Yes her choice would effect her husband, but she already has to live with what happened, she didn't ask for it.....it's totally up to her.

Actually it should be decided as a couple since they are married. Yes, it is ultimately "her" choice, but as a married couple, they should both be part of the conversation/decision.

I agree they should have a discussion, I mean all couples should discuss major choices. But I still maintain, whatever the husband says, it should be the decision of the rape victim. I don't believe on further penalizing victims of crime. If she wants to end the pregnancy, her choice, if she wants to carry full time then give it up for adoption, her choice (it's not even related to the husband), if she wants to keep the baby, again her choice, if the husband doesn't want to live with that, HIS choice what he does.

Hmmmm, interesting question. If a married woman is raped by a man not her husband and decides to keep the baby and the husband divorces her.....is he legally responsible for child support?

Another interesting debate question.....

I am pro-life, but this is honestly one of the weakest possible arguments for a pro-choice person to take. The fact of the matter is that situation is EXTREMELY unlikely. The number of pregnancies as a result of rape in cases of abortion is very, very low. I feel that if someone was raped, that it is a little more respectable to choose abortion. It becomes even less of an effective argument if you believe in the morning after pill, in which case it offers a chance to prevent the likelyhood of having a child even more.

Interesting, so you are pro-life not anti-morning after pill?

And by the way it's anti-abortion or pro-abortion. I am pro-abortion but I certain am not anti-life! That's a purposely inflammatory description, imho.

if you believe in the morning after pill.
Keywords are located there. I honestly feel that its somehow more respectable to take a morning after pill than waiting, but I cannot say I approve of either. Pro-life certainly is a powerful phrase, but it is one that also fits its claim. Why would you not take a strong, aggressive approach to an important debate?
