If I was raped and became pregnant there is NO WAY IN HELL that I would carry that baby to term. Everyday I would look down at my pregnant belly and have to live through the rape again. There is NO WAY that I would allow the rapist to have claim to his illegitiment child. B/c once that baby is born he has rights to it.

Adoption may never be the best answer.

i can understand other stuff. if the girl was raped then i dont think abortion is right either. adoption is the best answer if you dont think youre ready for a child yet

For those of you who are against abortion, here are some interesting facts to consider.

1. There are 1,370,000 abortions in the US each year
2. There are 51,000 people that adopt a child (relations & marriage not included)
3. There are 100,000,000 households in the US

If abortion was made illegal in the US today, within 5 years we would have to house over 6 million unwanted children. Who will take care of these children? Who will support them and care for them?

Why is it that I will never see anyone say "I am against abortion and I think it should be illegal in all but the most extreme cases... but this is how I think we can help those women that feel that it is the best choice for them"?

I don't think abortion should be illegal, we don't have the resources to deal with the population explosion that will come after. And this doesn't even account for all the back-alley deaths that will come with it.

I guess it would be the same as making petroleum products illegal to own or use without first preparing how we will deal without them....
Lets first deal with preventing unwanted pregnancies in the US and get the number down to a managable size. The conservatives view of "abstanence only" education isn't working. We need real world solutions to the problem.

well then maybe the government can put a stop to people adopting outside the country and focus on the problems inside the country. im 100% against abortion, i dont think its right. i do not hold vendettas against those who do abort, i have friends that did it. i just thinmk that there are other solutions to the problem that are overlooked

people who use adoption as the only answer should be the first ones in line to adopt these babies. Otherwise they are still part of the problem and not the solution they are looking for.

You are absolutley correct. We MUST look at reducing the amount of abortions that take place every year. You can't just make it illegal, but through strong education we can reduce this number signifacantly.
My biggest problem is that the idiots in office right now, along with the religeous assholes think that teaching abstenance only is the right course. Nothing else, just say NO... That's where most of the problems come in...

LOL, sorry Dan, we aren't trying to gang up on you... honest. Just expressing my opinion as you are... No matter what your stance, I can respect it. So don't feel like this is getting to heated or out of control. OK? It's just debate, good honest no name calling debate.

If a girl is raped, she should have the right to have an abortion.

(IM NOT ARGUING BUT IM JUST POINTING A QUESTION TO THINK ABOUT!!!) okay... In the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Case, Jane Roe, the woman who was pregnant and wanted to get an abortion, said she was pregnant through a gang rape. After it was all said and done it ended up being revealed that she actually wasn't raped but was rather pregnant through her own doing. Therefore, the question then becomes... How can you tell if someone is raped or not. Because everyone in the nation who wanted to get an abortion on their baby would just say it was rape and then get an abortion. Anyone, ever heard of the "silent scream"?

And then think about the millions of girls that ARE actually raped. You think they would want to have a kid of a rapist?

Agreed, how woulod you feel about yourself knowing you're the product of someone forcing themselves onto another, more often violently? I say it's the mother's call there. She is the one who has to deal with all the issues that poor child would have anyway, nobody else. That violence more often than not, is genetic.

Come on guys. I hear all this "think about the kid when they get older, about how their child hood would be, how they would feel...." If you are going to justify killing in the womb by relating it to the kids later life, then essentially you have to be willing to say all the kids who live a bad childhood are worth sparing. I was an accident, I know that, and I'm sure as hell glad that my mom didn't decide to have an abortion.

Theres a lot more to life than being a kid. Sure I agree it would be a terrible thing to grow up knowing you were the product of a rape or an unwanted child. But the older I got I would thank my lucky stars that I was given the opportunity to survive and live.

I know two people who actually are the product of rape - there is no coming to terms with it. My sister was a mistake (my mother had been trying to commit suicide at the time, that is easy by comparison, cause one's mother could still have a change of attitude and the childhood can be easy - but when your rapist dad sues for custody..... different story altogether.

What if the girl that was raped found out she was pregnant very soon after, lets say 4-5 weeks gestation. You would be against terminating the pregnancy? Is that considered murder? At 5 weeks it's an embryo that's 1/4" long, half a centimeter, it looks more like a tadpole than anything else at this point.

After rape it's something one would always need to think of first, they normally give one the option of the morning-after pill. Is that murder, any more or less than at any later stage, as abortions can safely be done by qualified people far further than 3 months along?
The only reason I think it's a option to think about viably, is having seen the issues these kids never get over. Granted, I only knew two of them, but that was enough for me to think about it seriously.
It's up to the individual to make the choice, nobody can make that choice for her. If it were me, in a case of rape, I'd seriously think about going for the morning-after pill.

I cant say that I am for or against it. I do feel that there are circumstances that it is ok. Those are rape and incest. other than that I just dont know.
