Why bother with doing it during as to let the invaders hear your voice...besides time is important..grab the rifle first ..second how long is it going to take the sheriff to get to his place out in the country.

Time couldn't of been that important if he had time to sit in the chair and wait.

Oh, and the reason you would charge him, if you really can't figure it out, is to let a court of law decide if he is guilty or not. Old man shoots young punks busting into his house doesn't win any sympathy points for the punks though.

If it took 20 minutes for the guys to get upstairs from the basement, IT WAS an ambush.

Added the fact that video cameras were installed in the basement due to a previous break in.

He heard noise he grabbed rifle sit down they kicked in door to upstairs.
This is the first I have heard about a camera downstairs..not that it negates the fact they kicked in to the upstairs.
Why should he yell at home invaders and give up his exact location in the house?.
Why sit there and talk to police so you cant listen for intruders?...they cant save you anyway..they arent there.

They came in at 2 am sneaked in through the basement ...then kicked in the door to the upstairs.
You dont kick in a door and make noise like that to do burglary while someone is asleep.

The burglar for breaking and entering and the idiot that unlawfully detains, terrorizes and tortures under threat of bodily harm.

The funny part is that the home owner that does something like this can get 20 years while the burglar would probably just get probation.
