The local morning talk show guy was talking about that. Apparently the bill would not allow the NCAA to call it a national championship unless there is a playoff system.

I saw Rep Michelle Bachman when CNN was covering this hearing. Keep in mind prior to this last election, she was the one who suggested they run an investigation on congressmen and senators to identify who was anti-American. Things were fine when her party was in charge and the country was headed down the crapper. She had nothing to say during the first round of hand outs by the Bush Administration. After her party looses the election, she is suggesting we need a revolution.
In this clip she's asking the Treasury Secretary where in the Constitution does it allow him to do what he is doing. He replies that Congress has given him the authority, but she presses about where in the Constitution? I'd suggest that is a better question to ask her fellow Congressmen. I'd like to ask does the Constitution lay out every conceivable situation and address how it is to be handled? Where in the Constitution does it say that Congress can invest tax dollars in large corporations? I am not a Constitutional expert but I don't think it was created as a document designed to regulate specific situations but more of the broad strokes specifying the balance of power, giving Congress the ability to pass laws as long as they don't interfere with the general guide lines set forth.
For perspective, I don't want to see the wholesale nationalization of corporations but I do want effective and enforced regulations in place that prevent this kind of bullshit from ever happening again. I wonder why it would not have been better to allow AIG to go into Chap 11 so all contracts could be rewritten to reflect today's reality.

I'm not an economist but who here thinks that the Republican's current view of tax cuts and spending caps is sufficient to deal with this crisis?
Tax cuts have always resulted in more tax revenue. Problem is that the spending cuts never happen. You need both. But the reps would never take the hard stance on cuts because the libs are good at demonizing that kind of stuff.
What I do not get is how on earth there should be a budget deficit in the next few years. Unless the stimulus is included in that. If the stimulus is separate then why should there be any spending increases?
We will get nowhere as there is no will to put on freezes let alone caps.

I walked into a store today and Glen Beck was there on Fox droning on about the merits of Torture. Hey a winning concept- Republican's For Torture, We'll Keep You Safe! The man has become a complete buffoon.
One of the representatives was on local radio today talking about the torture issue. He indicated that I think it was the House Intelligence Committee that they were briefed about what was going to take place. Time will tell if that is BS but he was the chair sometime in the mid 2000's and he says waterboarding came before that. I got the impression that water boarding only was done thru 2003. Anyway if it can be proven what he is saying then it seems to me more than Bush is at fault if one wants to place blame. For me I wish they had just taken some of them out to a field and shot them afterward like the Germans did. I have no sypathy for the slime who masterminded some of the terrorist attacks. I could care less what happens to them because they place no value on life.
He was making the valid point that no one was against torture immediately after 9/11, and that it's a political football now. Did you see the guy he brought on that said they'd studied waterboarding for Clinton and decided way back then that it isn't torture? SERE school (LINK) waterboards all their students to help prepare them in case they are captured. It's used as an inoculation -- a not-quite the real thing in case they have to face the really real thing.
I was water boarded in Navy SERE school, but if taken to an extreme it is torture and can result in death. OBVIOUSLY they don't do that to U.S. military participants in a p.o.w. school. You are closely monitored by a doctor during the process and you know they are'nt going to kill you. At no point in POW school are you in fear for your life. At the end of WWII, people were prosecuted for water boarding prisoners. Waterboarding Used To Be A Crime. So it was almost funny hearing Ollie North spouting he was waterboarded, no big deal.
I know someone who just went through SERE school and it was implied and specifically mentioned unofficially that the change in U.S. policy during the Bush Administration has endangered the health of future U.S. POWs. We used to have a moral standing to say torture is wrong. The key word is "used". Maybe it's going back to the old standard under Obama. In the mean time certain conservative ass holes are pushing it for attempted political gain.
Glen Beck is a complete idiot. Republican surrogates pushing torture in the name of sudo-security is bad for their party, bad for the U.S. military and bad for the country.
