What the fuck are you trying to do Lumpy? I though you were simply trying to install XP on a SATA drive. The disc you had should have easily worked. What did you fuck up?

Hey! I didn't fuck up anything! :surrender
The floppy let the XP installation see my drives and partitions but says they are not XP compatible. Like I mentioned before I hear that older versions of windows won't install on vista formatted drives.

Well just reformat the drive with XP.

Well just reformat the drive with XP.

I can't do that until XP is installed.

XP reacts to Vista formatted drives the same way old W98se did to XP formatted drives (FAT32 does not see NTFS). This pisses me off because I heard that installing XP on Vista formatted drives was problematical long before I got Vista but forgot about it. That's why I think I need to LLF the drive to get rid of the vista formatting. I see no other way around it.

I think the problem is a compatibility issue with drivers and the type of drive.

been a long time going back so not sure

but this is not apparently a simple procedure like you would think it should be.

Yeah, that is why I was saying it certainly not like slapping in the old boot floppy, partitioning then slapping in the windows disc. Windows does not want you using any other OS except Vista. You have to fight for control of your computer. I am assuming using a virgin drive would simplify things.

I can't see how it would be a compatability issue with drivers once he got the right SATA drivers on a floppy during the installation process. XP should simply see a drive regardless of formatting and be able to reformat it--in fact any window version should do that. I really don't understand why the formatting on a drive would prevent it.

Thanks for the link! I will d/l it, back up my drive and nuke the sucker. Then I will try the XP install.

If this works and you don't want my tokenz how about I fly down there and give you a big sloppy kiss instead? ;)

is that service pack ok now?

all the bugs out of it to update???

i been holding off until it was.

I've downloaded it to 4 or 5 computers with no problems--I wasn't aware there were any problems iwth it. Every service pack has the potential to cause problems with some software, but usually its because the software is garbage--I've never had a problem with an MS service pack although I know people who have. If I had a problem, I'd get rid of the software not the service pack.

Eww! At least I've seen your picture. I have no idea what he looks like and I'm not fooled by the avatar at all. There will be no prince suddenly appearing after the pucker!

I have the XP/SP3 download but need to load it onto a CD. (That's another thing I miss: installing W98se or W2K from the HDD.) I, too, have never had problems with a service pack but have had crashes after using some windows drivers.
