Ok Jimi--create a directory on your "C" drive called "Files" and then Type Start, Run and type the following:

c:\files\iata86cd.exe -a -a -p (assuming you downloaded that file rather than the enu file)

That will extract the drivers to a folder called "c:\program files\Intel" and you can nagivate down to the files. Then just copy the files to a floppy as per the Readme instructions.

I extracted them so if you have a problem, I can e-mail them to you.

Lumpy--if you want you can add a path to that command and it will extract the file to that path like so:

c:\path\iata86cd.exe -a -a -p c:\path

where "path" is the name of the subfolder. I used "files, so mine is:

c:\files\iata86cd.exe -a -a -p c:\files

Also lump--after you install windows with the "F6" driver method, you would then run that exe file and it will install correctly at that point.

I told you it was a bit confusing.

Thanks for the command line - it worked but I had to move the original exe file into my C:/files folder. I don't think you mentioned that. I had downloaded the file onto my desktop.

Reading the readme now...

I have a floppy created but will wait until tomorrow before trying to use it. I have another rather large download happening right now and don't want to disturb it so the attempt can wait until tomorrow. Besides, it's getting late here...

Later!

Oops! Missed your posts again but I understand them. There really isn't anything confusing about the process. Like I said earlier it's just a matter of getting the proper drivers. I have gone through the install with the F6 method with several different drivers but they simply did not work. The installation process always ends with a no discs found error message.

The files you sent that I have on the floppy look familiar but I will try them anyway in case they are a newer or different version.

Oh yes--sorry--you did need to move the file into the c:\files folder. Well that should be it--it should work like a charm.

BTW--I don't want your tokenz--I would have helped you regardless! ;)

I know - and it's much appreciated!

OffTopicz is crashing here and it's getting late so I will update tomorrow. Until then sleep tight~! :)

I'm goiong to try my new F6 floppy tomorrow night or Saturday when I have more time to fiddle around.

In the meantime, my tokenz are still up for grabs!

By the way, I started a similiar post in a forum "famous" for their tech support and I got exactly zero responses, so I thank everybody that posted here, even if I don't get a satisfactory result.

Here's the poop. I got to the stage of installation where XP asks you which partition you want to use. It showed all ten partitions but then I select one it says it isn't Xp compatible. I used the delete/create partition option but it's still not usable. I believe this is because I have formatted both drives with Vista. :mad

I'll have to find a LLF utility to do that. Here is a quick profile of my system:

250GB primary drive divided into partitions C, E, F, G. Vista is on C

500GB secondary drive divided into partitions D, H, I, J, K, L. I want XP on D. L is the vista page file. K has 60 of 90 GB used for recorded TV.

How I see it is I can LLF the secondary drive but how to format it afterwards? Too bad I didn't have access to a second desktop or I would plug the drive into it and nuke the drive with XP.

...then i would say take it all down to zero and rebuild from there...BUT you need to get all the drivers first and they won't be on the gateway site they'll be on other sites...like hp nividia and dell.

your gateway should already have a zeros progams on it...if not try this Gateway Support - Write Zeros to Drive Using GWSCAN 5.02

I'll see what else I can find...if I can get a hold of Gord, remember him? I'll ask him what to do as he taught this shit for both gateway and dell.

Drivers are problematical. I will have to search the manufacturer's sites to see if XP drivers are available. This is a problem I have heard of for some systems.
