Debates are won by convincing others of the superiority of your thoughts/premises. People walk away from you not because you won, but because arguing with a brick wall is a waste of time. By my reckoning, you haven't won a debate yet. For that, you'll have to change your tactics and inject meaningful substance into the discussion.

I gave my opinion in my first post of this thread, but it's hard to ignore the local troll, especially when he brings nothing to the conversation accept accusations and attacking member's character. It's not just this thread. It's every thread he participates in. There's bleedover...

Sometimes religion is good, sometimes it's really bad. My intent is not to get into a debate on how often it is good, but to express an opinion that unfortunately humans tend to corrupt religion as we do all endeavors.

My guess on why you are not answering would be because you simply have already ?

I do agree that humans tend to corrupt religions and that was the reason for me expressing my own observations of the Churches stating that money is evil yet asking for money from the other hand.

But there are many examples that one could use such as Religion is peaceful yet it has been the root cause of many wars.

I could never understand religions that would condone stonings and witch hunt burnings instead of trying to understand and help.

Some of the worst sex offenders are from the Churches. That would be by far not what a good and loving God would want..

Religion is tough, it has potential, but my experience indicates the potential is far from being achieved. It's highly susceptible to corruption, by the hands of the manipulators, seeking wealth and control, by the hypocrites who go to church every Sunday as if it was a free pass for the rest of the week's transgressions, and by the hedge-your-bets believers who stake their salvation on ancient scripts written by primitive superstitious men.

Searching for spiritual truth is an outstanding goal in life. How far can one get? Unknown. Until crossing the threshold, I don't see a way to reach any conclusions, only suspicions, desires, philosophical beliefs based on how to improve one's self, and maintaining hope that life indeed has a meaning outside the scope of a human life span.

PS: For participants of OTG, I just activated my ignore list, for the first time ever! Tired of wasting energy on the unsalvageable. Do you know how nice it is not to see long lists of idiotic posts. A breath of fresh air.
