You do not need to be baptized.

Lol tell that to my aunt and her congregation :24: they would put their hands on you and pray the devil would leave you for saying so.

I actually heard someone say what you just said to a family of Baptists in Michigan (not a lot of fundies here, so their "rules" are a bit softer) and it was met with harsh criticism. To those I've known who placed value on being saved, if you're not willing to be baptized to show you accept him, you haven't done enough. Hell still awaits.

Just to clarify this point...

To be "Saved" means to accept Jesus into your heart and admit that he died for your sins.

Baptism is only a public sign that you have done this and has nothing to do with your salvation. In other words, you do not need to be baptized.

The gospel according to Tim.... :24:

It depends on who you ask.

I completely agree that they will not be happy if you don't make a public showing of it. But there would be absolutely no disagreement among them that if you accepted jesus into your heart and got hit by a falling tree that afternoon, you would still go to heaven even without the baptism.

No, the gospel according to Baptists and Pentecostals.... the people that we were addressing.

And before you open your mouth again, understand that if there is anything to know about Baptists and Pentecostals, it's me.

I was raised in a Baptist family. Went to church every Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday night and Thursday night.. every week without fail until I was 18.
I went to a Baptist school for several years. And most of my extended family is Pentecostal. I have spent many years going to their churches as well.

I don't care who you were talking about. That is why I said it depends on who you ask.

Wow, so you were forced to go to church when you were a kid and now you are an expert...congrats on that...

I'll give y'all my aunt's cell phone number. I'm not kidding, she doesn't believe you can get to heaven without the baptism. She's got about 400 friends who would echo her sentiments. Surely everyone has different rules, but some people don't agree being saved is just in your heart.

I'd bet it's not common, what she believes. It's such a horribly ticky tack point. Surely water and a pastor can't be the thing that takes a person from damnation to salvation but I don't put anything past religion because it's all in the details with certain denominations. They're very very strict down there. My childhood friend was pretty strict as well, I guess.

It seems that Pentecostal beliefs vary by region. There are
Oneness groups, who follow early leader G. T. Haywood's theology, salvation is linked to being baptized in the name of Jesus.

They must vary in their beliefs by region.

Very interesting indeed

Depends on the water..

I hear if you let Grape "Water" sit long enough and drink lots of it, you start seeing all sorts of things..

A point of view is only what you make others believe it is when brain cleaning ( sub word )... :tooth

One must just speak much slowwwwwweeeeeeer for sloooooow childreeeeeeeenn and not ignore them.. :24:

Kind of like talking to government employees.

Fact is Jesus took men with him to spread His Fathers word. Yeah, you can love Jesus all you want, but you're only fooling yourself if you don't take some kind of action on your own behalf other than just sending money out in the mail and feeling good about it.
