Well this has certainly progressed while I've been away. Who knows where it is now, but I'm going to comment on something that was going on earlier in the thread.

Is this a joke?

Why would you ask if it were a joke? Nobody is saying "The USA won the Vietnam war." The article is simply making the point that it wasn't the huge massive failure that people think it was.

We assisted free people for the better part of a decade, but when the political pressure became too great at home, we had to let them fend for themselves. Two years later they were no longer able to do that, and now live under Communism. It's not a complex view of the world, it's just simple math.

The Domino theory can be debated forever, but I stand on the idea that it is a sound principal, primarily because we've seen it happen in the past. It MAY not have worked out that way in the 60's and 70's, but it just as possibly could have.

Unless he went to every vet and interviewed them, his data is false.

You know I've got a soft spot in my heart for you Ron, but this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard you say.

You need to either re-evaluate your stance on statistics, or never again use them in any of your arguments on this site. (Beyond that even, I'd love to hear your idea of a better way of doing things)

If statistics didn't work, it would have been a discarded science by now. ... How many stats classes have you taken!?

I took statistics, and if you did yourself you would know that sampling groups are extremely flawed. Really, how did this guy get his numbers and what method did he use? He probably doesn't say, does he? The numbers could be right, no denying that, but they are VERY questionable coming from a biased site that doesn't say how they got their numbers. I'm not being dumb by asking how he/they got them.

And certain statistics do work, but they are hardly 100% fact like this site is proposing. Science is perfectly fine, don't worry.

Okay, so what you're saying is that you'll never again try to use stats to help back you oppinions anymore.

Good deal.

You don't want to argue with me about stats my friend. I may have a few courses under my belt. ;) Your observations of the science would earn you about a D- in any respectable school.

No I'm perfectly fine with stats that have how they were taken provided. Your's don't. So for the last time, how did he get these numbers?

The CDC Vietnam Experience Study Mortality Assessment

Sociologists Charles C. Moskos and John Sibley Butler, in their recently published book "All That We Can Be,"

There is no difference in drug usage between Vietnam Veterans and non-Vietnam Veterans of the same age group (Source: Veterans Administration Study).

General Westmoreland quoting Douglas Pike (a professor at the University of California, Berkeley), a major military defeat for the VC and NVA. [In comment on the Tet offensive]

I spent like 15 seconds skiming the article. and pulled those. I'm sure there are more, but this is enough to make the point.
