Yes, so they should study all aspects of the bible and understand exactly what everything means so they can meet your standards. Good luck with that. :smiley24:

It's simply amazing how judgmental people can be. How about we all just let other people do their thing and worry about our damn selves? I guess when you're not happy with yourself it's just easier to point out everyone else's faults instead of working on yours.
This is not my standard(s) we're talking about!

We're talking about living your faith and religion...the standard was set up by your god!

You're just trying to turn this around on me because its a difficult question.

Why so upset about something you think is fiction, anyway?

Why you pointing fingers at me? Who the fuck ever said I was a fucking Christian? I've never stated I was a Christian.

How do you know those STANDARDS you keep referring to are still valid. How do you know that it's God's requirement to Christians to know every single one of the commandments he set? Should Christians just know those, or all the rules and regulations set forth in the Bible? Who decides what makes a Christian a Christian, other than God himself?

Oh, Idk the bible and church tradition that has lasted for over a thousand years seems to be still valid in the eyes of people who are in the know.

"How do you know that it's God's requirement to Christians to know every single one of the commandments he set?"

Well he didn't supposedly take the time to create them and hand them down to one of his most trusted followers on a mountain for shits and giggles. Do you seriously think god, an all knowing, all perfect being would just create something every important to him and his creations and not at least expect them to know them?

"Should Christians just know those, or all the rules and regulations set forth in the Bible?"

ALL of the important ones. Again, this isn't me talking. This is god's word. He creates things for a purpose.

"Who decides what makes a Christian a Christian, other than God himself?"

EXACTLY! GOD DECIDES! And from what we know, god decides if you're a christian or not by looking at if you follow what he has said and set forth for you to complete in your religious life. If you're lax about fulfilling this role then you're not being very observant.

I guess you haven't read much of the bible. In the bible, there are tons and tons of rules written. Try Leviticus for instance. With all of this stuff, all of these rules in the bible, how are Christians to decide which are valid, and which aren't? Some were supposedly written on stone tablets by God and given to Moses, others were told to Christians by Jesus, others were told to other people...

So in the end, the only one who can really judge is each individual person, and God. I don't think it's right for any person to say if someone else isn't truly a Christian, because the bible gives so many damn definitions of what that really is. It's not right for you to judge... only God. Why don't you just let Him handle it... mkay?

I've actually read the bible cover to cover several times in my early life. I was raised Roman Catholic and have gone to 6 years of catholic school. (I am an atheist and have been for years now if you didn't know).

*GASP!* are you judging my competence to this topic!? Tsk tsk....I thought you weren't into judging. :0

you should follow as much as you could just to be safe.

Ah well... good for you.

I'm not judging competence, just merely expressing concern over what I assumed to be your ignorance of the bible, to what really really now know is your apparent disregard for your *vast* knowledge of it.

Well, that is certainly *your* choice.

Personally I feel the need to stick with what I feel is the right thing to do, and just trust that in the end it will all work out. But that's just my philosophy, not something I expect to cram down other people's throats and judge them with.

its not my authority, its the authority of the god you are supposed to believe in. The 10 commandments are believed to be written by god himself and are to be central to how Christians live their lives, yet so many so called Christians do not even know most of them. How can you seriously call yourself a Christian if you do not know the very basics of how to live like one?

Your understanding of what is "central" to being a Christian in relation to the bible is wrong. The New Testament is unique to Christianity and carries more weight than anything in the old testament. The 10 commandments merely define what is and is not sin. Christianity is centered around Jesus. Jesus didn't exist in the old testament.

And your arguement about memorizing the 10 commandments and the "serious" Christian is just stupid. One's ability or desire to memorize/retain information does not correlate to the level of their faith.

I thought Jesus was sent because the Old Testament comandments didn't work out too good (another of gods fuck ups, lol) Wonder if we'll end up with a new new testament?

Of course the NT is unique to Christians, however, there are several things in the OT that are still very important to Christian belief, ones of those are the 10 commandments. I defy you to find a Christian theologian or person of the cloth who does not think the 10 commandments or the OT are not that important to Christianity.

Jesus is god. God existed in the OT.

No see, I think knowledge of the very basic tenets of your faith DOES have a very important correlation to the level of your faith. The faithful know what is important. Weakly faithed people do not. There are no twos ways to this. You either know what you believe in and what is important to it, or you don't.

The Ten Commandments are all about behavior, except arguably the first one. Nothing to do with faith at all.

God gave Noah The Law. The Law is impossible for any flawed human to follow, but humans - being flawed - missed the irony.
Jesus came in & said the law can't be followed. It's too hard. Just do your best and rely on me for the rest. That "rely on me" part is where faith comes in.

The first 4 are all about god and his worship.

the 10 commandments are the basic LAW OF GOD. I would say that it is an article of faith to know and follow all of them if you were to worship your god who made the laws.

Um, please show me scriptural evidence of Jesus saying "lol sorry dudes my fath-errr I mean I was wrong in thinking you guys could follow my laws".
