yeah but you see, even religious scholars say that the flood story, as well as most of the Old Testament is not to be taken literally. At all.

I've spoken to many priests, nuns and even bishops (I was in a Roman Catholic high school for 6 years) about things like the flood and their validity, and NOT ONE OF THEM told me to take the story seriously. These are people that have devoted their lives to their religion and the study of it, and I'm pretty sure they know what they're talking about. The flood is simply one out of a ton of flood mythos that various cultures have.

This is besides the point of your perfect God argument, but there could have been a flood. The History Channel ran a program where researchers are exploring the possibility that the Black Sea was flooded by the Med at some point during Biblical times. I just watched a show on dissecting the plagues of the bible during the Exodus. The Exodus Decoded. It shows a scientific basis for all of the biblical plagues to an ancient eruption of a volcano during the time of the exodus. For example: The water turned to blood- volcano related gas bubbling into the waters. When it hits the surface it turns red like rust due to high iron content.

"So what?" the religious will ask, God manipulates the environment to suite his needs. However when you know these are scientifically verifiable events it gives you a different perspective. Coincidence or by God's hand?

That may be the way Catholics believe, I don't know because I'm not catholic.. I wasn't sure if Catholics were even encouraged to read the Bible on their own at all. Don't catholics just go to church and let the preist read to them parts of the Bible they pick out?
I was raised in a Baptist church where we were taught that the entire Bible is true, old and new testaments. There are a lot of religious scholars I'm sure that would argue both sides of the Old Testament's literal meaning.

Uh, no Catholics are encouraged to read the bible, as are most sects of Christianity. Its your damn owners manual....although I would go as far as to say that most Christians in America are what I like to call "vanilla" Christians, where they probably have read very little to none of the bible, but say they're christian because they were raised that way.

There are obvious myths in the bible, such as the dead rising from their graves at a particular point in the Old testament. Funny how no civilization at that time recorded a global, mass uprising of zombies. But thats just one example.

Actually, the most DAMNING evidence against a global flood that killed almost everyone is the fact that there were SEVERAL ancient civilization that were totally uninterrupted at the time the flood was supposedly in full swing. They experienced no global flood whatsoever. Gee, I guess the flood waters went around them or something?

well yeah there is evidence for a local flooding of that region, but thats far from being a global flood that a lot of Christians adhere to.

Your probably right about that.

Are you sure about Catholics being encouraged to read their Bibles? I have catholic friends who have told me the opposite. Maybe it depends on each Catholic church. Those friends were catholics in the 60's and 70's, maybe it wasn't encouraged back then?

I think vanilla Christians are in every sect, every class and every race. They only pick out the good parts they want to follow and leave the rest behind or are entirely ignorant of it. I'd go as far as to say that they're not Christians to begin with since they do not take it seriously.

Not if they are all hibernating. I think its possible that God put the animals into a deep sleep during their time on the ark. Just my own theory.
lol did they have chloroform back then?

ok i've decided to not do the calculations b/c A) I can't seem to find the weight of a bottle of chloroform, and B) i'm too lazy to find the max tonnage of a freight ship similar in size to the "ark"

My opinion if you is severely lowered because of your lack of enthusiasm for figuring out useless info simply for entertainment value. ;)

ah but you forget..........

in the bible all things are possible :24:
yes and in that case, all calculations are worthless because there are no calculations for sleep enhancers mentioned in the bible... and my dad just told me that apparently dogs don't have brains... that is what my grandmother the bible thumper told my dad a few days ago...:eek no shit!

i would be able to calculate it better if i were a cylon... i'm only human... lol:cool

Well I wouldn't want to be a fracking toaster, even if I could calculate how much chloroform it took to knock out 2 animals of every species on earth.

Though... it would be kind of cool if my spine glowed red while I was having sex. :D
