Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Petraeus made it clear that it was the CIA that gave the administration those talking points.
The administration didn't draft up the press release, that was done by the CIA and signed off by Petraeus. At that point, whether you are Rice or the President, you stick to the information that was declassified and released by the CIA as the "official" story.

I think it would have been stupid of anyone, even the president to just release everything he knew at the time. There is a reason they only release certain details at certain times. And this goes for ANY administration. Just because the public wants to know everything immediately, doesn't mean it's good to do so.

You may of missed it, but there were actually reports in the news directly after the attack in Libya on the Americans from some of the locals who were outraged that something like the attack could happen on the people (Americans) who were there to try and help their country. Then again, many Americans forgot about the Afghan farmer who risked his families life to help save an American commando.

Yep, lot of chest thumping on both sides, just like all the Christians in the U.S who were out in the streets at night the night Bin Laden was killed.

What I find ironic about 9/11 is the slogan "never forget". Seems like a lot of Americans seem to forget about 12/7 in the same breath.

Just because we're American citizens doesn't mean we're immune to the frails of being human, and revert back to the Old Testament when it suits our needs.

Thing is, the American citizen isn't use to living in a third world country whose government makes their money selling oil to westerners, and whose life has been torn due to either hardline religious / non religious dictatorships. I have no doubt that if some foreign country came into our country and acted as a police force and killed some of your family, you'd be one of the first ones on the bandwagon for revenge the rest of your life.
