How the incident fell is what makes it smell.
First it was over a video...then it wasnt.
When it was known the entire time it was terrorists...and orders were given to stand down.

If the fact wasnt hidden that they were terrorists and we had at least offered air support during the incident...there would be no reason to 'dig"

You might want to go check the facts again since Petraeus testified and answered some of these questions.

From what I understand, the CIA informed the President that it was a planned terrorist attack and they even knew which groups were responsible. But they asked the administration to not disclose the details because they were actively surveilling the targets and didn't want them to know that.

And as far as sending in help... Help was sent in. Once the attack started, they were reinforced by the CIA operatives that were close by.

That makes sense

That is also the first I have heard this as a reason

What is the source for that?

This is all new tim.
Where was the air support?
What aid was given?
Why were we led to believe it was a video?
The attack lasted several hours,,,plenty of time to send in some serious military aid.
Well yeah the local cia operatives may have provided limited aid....thats not "sent in" tim
As they were essentially already there close by.

Actually the group had already claimed responsibility for it...so the govt saying they didnt want to say anything as to tip off the terrorists that they knew who they were makes no sense.

(CNSNews.com) - On Sept. 11, 2012, just two hours after the State Department first began notifying government agencies back in Washington--including the White House--that the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was under attack by armed men, State sent out an email that went to at least two people in the White House that said the group Ansar al-Sharia had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Truth is we will never actually know what happened.
I have took a rather uncertain position with this incident....I usually take the factual position in a thread...but with this topic its not possible.
I still hold the position though that it smells pretty funny.
Nothing unusual with foreign affairs...IMO they wait to find out how much info is out...then create the release around it.

You should be smart enough to realize that you took your position because your hatred for the president goes a little beyond the norm.

This is what scares me about our country, and it seems no one will ever be able to meet in the middle.

My extreme dis satisfaction with the president having made zero effort to improve the economy and only work on social issues of which some are more damaging to the economy do not cloud my ability to look at this incident in an unbiased manner.

Axis - I respect your opinions but Mother Jones? Give me a break. As for John and his rubbish he is inconsequencial.

I mentioned Huffington. :)

I also read that CIA ops were going on and they did not want to advertise exactly what they knew. But this kind of stuff is not convenient for the right wing news media and all the little (for lack of a better word) Foxbots who sound off in this forum, and apparently not for the likes of McCain and Graham either.

Sure, not when the priority is fabricating a case against the Obama Administration. Maybe you are not doing this intentionally, but I can guess who you are taking your cues from. How do you feel official statements should be framed when there is an ongoing investigation happening- spill all the beans or hold cards close to vest?

You, unbiased? Come on. The President has made many attempts to work with Congress, specifically the House. Mostly they tell him to conform to their vision of the future or simply to fuck off. Up until a week ago, they were not budging regarding new sources of revenue.

Pretty simple

You state there is an ongoing investigation

Rather than to state what is a known lie that it had to do with some internet video

The White House let the lie stay in place rather than correct it.

They could have stopped things in their tracks the Monday after Rice mislead everybody

I don't blame Rice for this. I think she was used. But like a good little soldier she had probably unwittingly fallen on the sword and then stayed on it.

I believe that was said early on, but you see that was not good enough for pseudo-enraged GOPers, 4 people dead, what pre-election Obama Administration incompetence allowed this to happen?

geeze you are so caught up in everything has to be anti Obama that you can't see anything other than the liberal talking points

Rice went on to several Sunday shows and parroted the White House talking points

She made it clear that it was felt this was due to the video

Did she say there was still an investigation? Sure she couched her words.

I would have to go back and watch those interviews to see how the video came up in the discussion. My recollection is she brought it up.

If so then why even mention it? Unless it was to deflect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Petraeus made it clear that it was the CIA that gave the administration those talking points.
The administration didn't draft up the press release, that was done by the CIA and signed off by Petraeus. At that point, whether you are Rice or the President, you stick to the information that was declassified and released by the CIA as the "official" story.

I think it would have been stupid of anyone, even the president to just release everything he knew at the time. There is a reason they only release certain details at certain times. And this goes for ANY administration. Just because the public wants to know everything immediately, doesn't mean it's good to do so.

IDK, I just don't think there is anything here.

This non-issue is pretty much over. Will the Republican fossils pushing this let it go? Probably not. They'll just continue to make the GOP look like the ridiculous asshats they truly are. This will boost the Democrats in the end.

I think one of the biggest hypocritical parts of this whole thing is while the republicans like McCain were holding press conferences saying they aren't being told the facts of what went on, they were missing the top secret briefings that were going on at the time. As a matter of fact 5 of the 8 republicans on the comity didn't attend.

Still smells John.
We heave radical uprisings in 20 nations as a celebration to 9/11
We are told its over a movie....rather than what it is /terrorists uprising in 20 nations.

Now lets break the news for a moment of how it could have happened.
"Radical terrorists attacking embassies throughout the mideast in celebration of 9/11."
"The people are pretty much on their own"..."There will be little to none in way of military aid."
"We will not capture nor retaliate against the radicals...We are hoping they are happy that they got their thing off and all will pass"
"Election schedules in November will not be affected."

"Back to your regularly scheduled programming"

As we can see John the reaction by the US citizens would be much different and rightly so.
