I've read part I and II of Madame Bovary, I iz proud of myself! :p I plan to finish it tonight :)
Finishing books is kind of my weakness lol, I read about 80% of 1,000 years of solitude and once it mostly covered war stories I gave up, much to my boyfriend's dismay :p

I really love the time and setting, it reminds me a bit of The Passion by Jeanette Winterson. I think it's well written and never boring or low quality. I'm just now beginning to warm up to Emma though, I'm trying to be open to her plight lol.

ooo I haven't read The Passion, I'll put it on my wishlist. I think Madame Bovary is a fabulous novel and the writing is beautiful. I can really imagine that I'm there seeing everything and in the introduction to Matt's copy of the book, it said that a lot of the places mentioned are still there and are just like described.

I really like Emma even though I really shouldn't. She reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind. The type of character that you should hate because of all their negative traits but who you just end up really liking.

I think it's very easy to visualize, too, it feels as though I'm watching the film...I have it all mapped out in my head lol. I wouldn't actually want to see the film, I'm sure it's not as good as mine :p

She does seem a bit like Scarlett; she didn't seem so at first but it's progressed that way. Emma seems a bit less headstrong and conniving...more..."afflicted".

Yes I know what mean.

Where about are you in the book? I know you said you had read Part I and II but I can't remember where that is plot-wise.

I know! I also don't really care for Charles. I know I probably should because Emma is such a bitch, but I just cannot feel sorry for him.

I felt horrible for Charles at first, because he's sweet and at least cares, but he's rather thick!

Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It really is one of my all time favourite books and was definitely the best thing I read last year.

Finished my first book on the bus this morning, but now I have nothing to read on my break or on the way home *facepalm*

I get three times during the day to read haha, on my break and on the bus to and from work - I even thought to myself that I'd be finishing this one soon, but didn't think to pick up the one I'm reading next :( urgh.

Oh no HK! I hate it when that happens :(

I am currently reading 2 books. One will be finished hopefully before Sunday when I'll start the next book for the reading challenge.

I have one more weekend before school starts and I wanted to read one or more of the books I had but never read completely...I have Me Talk Pretty One Day by Sedaris and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genuis by Eggers. I went to look for them on my book shelf and my mom said she gave them away to a work friend 2 years ago.

:mad who does that???? I'm so mad! I love my little book collection, and she gave away my Palahniuk book and the Da Vinci Code too! Fuhhh evil woman.

I think I might read the Bell Jar again or find another PDF book.

Oh I love The Bell Jar (no surprise there). Have you read Johnny Panic And The Bible Of Dreams?

And really I am in shock/anger for you. Why would your mum not even ask you if it was ok to do that?
