here is me taking my life into my own damn hands:
I believe in God, and because of the free will that God "supposedly" gave me, I choose to leave the fate of my future child's life in his hands.
And that is your right, and thank "god" for a country that allows you to have such rights.

Some people want to take those rights away, due to personal beliefs .. but what if the tables were turned and they were forced to do something they did not agree with.

What if the government forced you to take such tests, and to abort if the child was found to have such conditions? How bad would that suck? It would suck alot, and so would not being able to make the choice to terminate should you feel YOUR personal beliefs compelled you to do so.

The table has 2 sides .. and as it is now .. you can choose your side freely. I like it that way.

Don't get me wrong, I am pro choice! I agree with being given the right to choose, but I think that the decision should be made very carefully and I think maybe some form of counseling beforehand should be required so that people really understand what they are doing when they choose to abort. Personally, I would never abort. But that's jsut me. I don't think people shouldn't be allowed allowed to make their own choices.

I also think counceling should be involved .. but from a non-biased side.

That isn't something to take lightly .. and as I've stated several times before this .. would only be something I would consider if heavy weighted proof could be given to me that my child was at risk for certain, uncurable, painful disorders.

Then you get into the quandary of well does this councilor have an agenda or are they looking out for our best interests

it shouldn't be up to the counselor. It should be non-biased and non-subjective. There should of course be guidelines in place for the counselors to follow, and the people chosen for these types of jobs need to be those who don't let personal feelings get in the way.

I don't want to know...because:
1) the first thing they do is a more detailed u/s. This just tells you if you are "at risk" or not. Not what your chances are of having a baby with downs', etc. If you ARE at risk, you can either worry and wonder for 9 months, or:
2) you can get an amniocentisis. This is where they do this, which would make me feint and in and of itself it poses a very high risk of miscarriage. It's not worth the risk, IMO. Or the pain. yuck.

I'm pretty sure they can just take blood samples from the mother and find out if there's anything wrong.

My point is that we all know some ppl are very opinionated and others aren't so when you mixed over opinionated people with the more meak "well she seems to know what shes talking about so I should just follow her advice" type individuals (sorry im having a brain fart and couldn't think of the word to describe this type of individual), that a councilor could say one thing the patient would be more likely to do as suggested merely because the stature of the councilor.

well maybe if the person isn't THAT sure, then they shouldn't be having an abortion in the first place??? Seriously. Just because they are a meek individual doesn't mean that a complete stranger can come and tell them what to do. They should listen to the counselor, and maybe the counselor shows them a new point of view they didn't think of before...what if they realize they wouldn't be able to deal with the possibly harmful consequences? They need to be educated first, and that's what the counselors should be there for.

FOXNews.com - Baby Doctors Said Would Be Deaf, Blind Born Healthy - Health News | Current Health News | Medical News

A baby that doctors said would be deaf, blind and only live a few hours is now healthy and attempting to talk, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Doctors urged Becky and Kriss Kramer of Pembroke Dock in South Wales, to abort their baby saying he would be born with rhomboencephalosynapsis — a condition that affects fewer than one in a million people worldwide, according to the report.
But the couple defied doctors' advice and their son Brandon was born healthy on Oct. 1 last year.
The baby is now teething and attempting to talk, it is reported.
"The fact that he is here now, alive and kicking, truly is a miracle," Kriss Kramer, 24, told the Daily Mail.
"I feel incredibly guilty thinking that I could have killed him, and then I find myself wondering how many other babies are killed who would have turned out to be completely healthy," said Becky Kramer, 23.

So basically the child will be living in a void for the rest of it's life. No sight and no sound.
No... The doctors said he would be born deaf and blind, and recommended an abortion. The couple had the child anyway, and he was born completely healthy and is leading a normal life. "Modern medicine" almost killed a normal, healthy child. Oops.

Mistakes happen, that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be at least an option.
Let me get this straight. Part of the reason you oppose the death penalty is the inherent human potential for making mistakes. But you're fine with aborting a child, even though mistakes can/will happen? You don't see a double standard there?

An unborn child doesn't have rights/isn't a person.

The fact that anyone can honestly believe that scares me. An unborn child is the absolute epitome of innocence. It deserves to be protected the exact same as any of us who were fortunate enough to make it out of the womb.

I'd like to speak my piece...

I'm so sick and tired people using God as an excuse for everything. Take life into your own damn hands. God supposably gave us free will. That we decide what we want to do with our lives that includes what we do positively or negatively to our bodies. If you got pregnant it's not a gift from God its a gift of two loving individuals. And those individuals need to decide for themselves whats right and whats wrong!

Thank you, Dana. Certainly a person has the right to say they believe in God, and they make a choice because it pleases God, ect. but to sit there and use God as an EXCUSE is a total cop out. A woman doesn't get pregnant because some "entity" places a baby in her womb, it happens because she had sex. If there is some sort of divine plan involved, its still not more of a reason than the physical fact of intercourse.
