No I'm not .. but I know enough to know that being deaf, blind, or mute isn't enough of a disability to stop a person from functioning on their own. They even have ways to correct it, just like you've recently had done.

You can't correct a missing skull bone or chromosone problem.

Being deaf (or blind, or mute) isn't a disability that ruins quality of life. You can still walk, learn, control your bodily functions, and take care of yourself. Not exactly the same situation we're talking about here.
No? Pull your ears off and tell me how well your life is.

You do not really know anything about disabilities do you? You just make some asinine comment of they should be aborted.

See you are taking this personally. Obviously you shouldn't be involved in this discussion.

I just recently had a 50Yr old metally retarded/chromosone deficient cousin pass away. I know more about this than you think.

He had NO quality of life, and neither did my aunt. Her husaband left her not lng after she had him .. he couldn't handle it (and not many people can) .. and she was left to care for a disabled man for the next 50 years. She has had NO life. Neither did he.

He could not see, at the end he could not hear. He was violent because of it .. of course because he was scared. He could not feed himself, and wouldn't allow her to most times .. so they had to cut a hole in his throat to force feed him .. which he yanked out on a fairly consistant basis.

That lead to constant infections of his throat .. which is what helped lead to his loss of hearing .. the infections. He also had to have a ventilator around his 20's because his lungs would stop during the night.

He was overweight due to a thyroid problem .. and he couldn't walk .. so he got bed sores a lot, until they developed a new type bed for him (he was 40 by the time my aunts insurance would cover one though .. they cost about $15,000 out of pocket) .. it has warm sand that moves inside it.

He never was able to control his bowels .. so he needed a diaper every minute of every day. He would pee and poop the bed/floor/you on a daily basis, during baths .. basically anytime he wasn't wearing a diaper .. if he left it on. He often took it/pulled it off.

He also couldn't speak .. so he couldn't communicate. Most days he sat in a chair, staring at either the tv or a wall .. he just sat and stared at space. Never smiled, never laughed, never did anything .. for 50 long years.

Now imagine 50 years of this. 50 years is a LONG time to deal with this .. as the person dealing with it AND as the parent having to deal with it.

Now, you tell me .. how GOOD of a life is that .. what do YOU know about that? huh? Tell me.

Sounds more like torture to me. Pretty assinine of me .. HUH?

Pol pot? You are after all extremely left wing.
My parents did not know I would be born deaf. All they knew is I would be born deformed. That is what the doctor say.

Are you blind, deaf or mute? What do you know?
I'm actually not extreme left. Extreme left would be like, anarcho communism.

Did you think before you typed this?
no of course I didn't :smiley24: .. I actually pulled that off another post I mad e.. and inserted it here.

I said it because you are getting bent out of shape over genetic issues we have repeatedly said do not concern the type disability that YOU have. A hearing disability and a chromosome disability are two COMPLETELY different things. They aren't even comparable, besides that they are disabilities. The severity doens't even remotely compare.

I could ask the same of this post of yours ...

you don't know me or about parts of my life I don't post about .. so maybe YOU should think before you post yourself :)

You know .. sometimes you are good at debating .. but when the issue hits close to home .. you seem to lose all ability to think normally.

You're acting very jouvanile in this instance .. like someone has pulled your ponytail or something.

It's ok to be passionate about something .. and no one is telling you that you should or have to do this. It's all personal opinion .. and to put such words into people's mouths .. is rather rude and obnoxious.

I never said this "those not likely to be born right, discard" .. I actually said I would not .. unless specific disorders were shown/proven to be present. And I said I would do so in order to prevent pain and discomfort and lack of life quality.

You need to quit being so narrow minded and quick on the trigger to get offended/upset.

I just want to speak my piece here. I personally would never abort my child, and even the thought of it makes me feel dirty. I believe everything happens for a reason, and I leave it in God's hands. I have an aunt that has severe down's syndrome. I have had to make this REAL...not hypothetical...decision recently and have decided NOT to undergo genetic screening. If my child is going to have a disorder...I don't want to know about it. I will only worry, and I refuse to let people even suggest that I should abort my child. The doctors don't predict the future of your child's life, nor can they tell you how bad off your child is going to be by doing an amniocentisis...all they can tell you is if your child will have these diseases or not. And that isn't even 100% reliable.

I see what you are saying here, but you wouldn't even want to know? What if its born with something SERIOUSLY wrong with it, that will cause it great suffering throughout it's "life"?

I don't want to know...because:
1) the first thing they do is a more detailed u/s. This just tells you if you are "at risk" or not. Not what your chances are of having a baby with downs', etc. If you ARE at risk, you can either worry and wonder for 9 months, or:
2) you can get an amniocentisis. This is where they do this, which would make me feint and in and of itself it poses a very high risk of miscarriage. It's not worth the risk, IMO. Or the pain. yuck.

I'm so sick and tired people using God as an excuse for everything. Take life into your own damn hands. God supposably gave us free will. That we decide what we want to do with our lives that includes what we do positively or negatively to our bodies. If you got pregnant it's not a gift from God its a gift of two loving individuals. And those individuals need to decide for themselves whats right and whats wrong!

Just an FYI we're not the only species that deals with the obstacles of not being able to care for an offspring but since our emotions are vocal and often times worn like the cuffs on a dress shirt we tend to be more keen things of such nature.

here is me taking my life into my own damn hands:
I believe in God, and because of the free will that God "supposedly" gave me, I choose to leave the fate of my future child's life in his hands. Why does it make you sick and tired when other people exercise their right to free will and choose to let things just happen??
