a condition that affects fewer than one in a million people worldwide, according to the report

If the docotrs are giving you a 1 in a million percentage rate that your child will be born with a strange/rare illness .. then no you probably shouldn't abort.

Those type statistics are not hard evidence .. the type they can give you when your child is missing chromosones, organs on the outside of the body, and/or missing bone matter .. are two completely different things. 3D ultrasounds can and do show you birth anomolies in the womb, there are no denying those right in front of your face.

AEF said he would abort in the child had Down's. That's vastly different from the type of birth defects you are talking about.

I've seen plenty of Down Syndrome people who lead a happy and productive life. You should meet Tiger man, a down syndrome local resident of Harlow, the guy is a legend and practically a celebrity!:D

It's the nature of the illness. People with Downs syndrome are amongst the most loving, caring people you can ever have the privilege of meeting!

many people with downs here live quite independant lives

Totally, check out that video of Tiger man in Harlow I put up. He's never being looked after by anyone specially, he just hangs around the town center, chatting with people and everyone loves him and keeps an eye out for him. If anyone picked on him, the'd have their arse literally kicked down the 414 and out of Harlow!

To my knowledge, persons with Downs, are perhaps the MOST understood, and normally the most functional.

I cannot imagine destroying a fetus because they were suspected to have Downs syndrome, they are such sweet people. I mean.....Has anyone here that is all for aborting them ever sat with one, played with one?

They love, they live, they work they play. Hell they live and breathe like we do.

I dont get it, I stand by my position on capital punishment but I'm consistant. I really dont see how you can justify saving a murderers life if you agree with killing innocent babies. Never really understood the liberal stereotypical stance in this respect, either you're pro life or you arn't!

It's the Democratic/liberal platform. Somehow, it's not hypocritical to say serial rapists should live, but unborn children should die. :smiley24:

well pass me a bloody gun then donnie and ill put the dem/lib platforming idiots out of their misery:smiley24:

Yeah I don't agree with that either .. People with Down's can live pretty independant livestyles. Some of them might not be able to live completely on their own, but they can function pretty normally, even if it is in an assisted living facility.

Like I've said, I only agree with it when the child is at risk for being in severe pain for it's entire life and if it will never have the ability to actually care for itself or control it's own self's body functions.

You mis-read the article. The odds of having the disease are 1 in a million, but the doctors were 100% sure the child would have it when he was born.

100% sure still = a 1 in a million chance .. that would not be nearly enoigh evidence for me.
