Sadly, it seems like schools have given up on grammar. I know in my classes, it was assumed that we knew what they were talking about. It wasn't until Applied Linguistic this past semester that I learn what a preposition was by diagramming sentences that had them.

:agree except i havent taken that class yet, and hope not too :D

You mean you don't want to diagram a sentence that take up more than a page? Somehow, that class helps me teach ESOL students English better. So far, all it has done is waste paper and cause frustration because phonetics and I don't mix.

Well, I disagree. I don't think it's the schools that have simply given up on teaching grammar. I know I passed all my tests, it's just the fact that the kids don't give a shit. Most will do what they need to pass, with a C... and forget everything 2 years out of high school.

Then you have these people sounding like 10 year olds creating huge run on sentences with no end in sight no discernable grammar and most importantly all the punctuation is missing (kinda like that.)

I know I'd have to look up what a freaking adjective is... I mean how often does that question come up in day to day conversations? Anything you use to look up what an adj. is anyway is going to be more difficult than not to even understand anyway.

The English language is so full of loopholes to it's 'rules' it's rediculous. Whoever created this language sucks monkey nuts. :lol

I would agree with that but it was never like that for me. I learned what a noun and a verb was in elementary school but it was never taught again. Most of the teachers assume that kids that were as smart as we were should know these things. So we never learned. Trust me, as high strung as some of the people were, it wasn't because they just wanted to get to get by in class.

I hate English. I like American Sign Language much better. You don't have to worry about matching articles. Verb tenses are established at the beginning of the sentence/conversation. Interpreting concepts is hard but much better than anything in English.

You complained, not me.

Norwegian is really pretty, but sadly, my Norwegian is terrible. My parents speak it fluently, though. Other than that, I'm content with English.

I had to learn it as a second language when I was in grade one. My sister (in grade two) and I picked it up quick. Malleable brains. My parents already spoke it.

Wow. Public school sure has changed a lot since I graduated. I've never even heard of dual enrollment. Still, your sister being in A.P. is nothing for her to be ashamed of.

Sure HAVE changed.

WTF are you on dude??? White2000GT has it right.

Thanks Rob. I guess public schools don't teach the difference between singular and plural anymore.

No, he orginally had it right, but it should've been "public schools sure have". That's all I was saying.

Come on kid. I got an "A" in college English. I know what I can and can not use when forming a sentence.

Its not the color of someone skin, but their soul. Its not how good they are, but how hard they try.

I work in a bad part of town and I really don't like the blacks down here and lots of the blacks I see are scum, but I know that their are lots of blacks that are good people that work hard and try to better themself. I really like those blacks. I like to see black people doing good for themself.

Its not what you have, but what you do with what you have.

A person's socioeconomic background as a child has a lot to do with what type of person he/she will be when he/she is an adult. I think that has a lot more to do with it than the person's race.

Ok, to clarify what I was saying, you are correct by saying "public school sure has", but if I had written it, I would've gone with "public schools sure have". That is all.

Why? Do I sound like one?

And I would have used "public schools sure have" had I been referring to all public schools. I simply chose to use "public school" in the singular since I was referring to one school that was mentioned in a previous post. The end.

The end? You're grammar is as fined-tuned as a Neanderthal's; not only in the rhetorical sense, but in the subjective since as well.

Yo dis playa u is dun, you kant do no nuthin to stopp dat won. stuped.
