They do so with ETB and moreso when they had foodstamps. They used to with WIC but have become more open to what you can buy food wise. So why not be able to regulate welfare? But that also brings up another debate about if they do it with Welfare should they do it with Social Security?
You make a good point. Interesting how WIC is very strict- it says on the check what the person can buy. Yet EBT has almost no restrictions. In fact, in NY at least, some people with EBT can withdraw money from their card and spend it as they wish.
I have to admit, we have a lot of clients on disability for depression...I have worse depression than a number of these people and I would never dream of trying to avoid work because I feel like shit. That's just me, though, it's different for everyone, and I know depression can get extremely debilitating.
I'm okay with people requesting assistance for depression, provided that they're also seeking treatment. I'm not an expert on it but know that it sucks the life out of people, and most people I'm sure would love to work rather than deal with the hell of depression.
