Re: Manditory drug test

I see what you're saying redliner, I'm just not convinced it would have the desired effect or that it'd really rid the system of the people who are taking advantage. Like Pan and Abc said, the sort of people who want to lie and find a way round this will find a way to do so if they can.

I feel like it's more likely to 'catch' people who've done nothing worse than have a joint at the weekend with a group of mates.

Re: Manditory drug test

HK might have a point about the pot thing, because some of the hardest drug users I know are too messed up to stay on welfare. They literally can't stay clean long enough to keep up with paperwork and whatnot.

It's an interesting topic, though.

Re: Manditory drug test

I don't see the point in spending money on finding out what people are doing in their own time.
I see a very good point. Why should people get welfare then squander it on drugs? The welfare program was set up to help low income people get on their feet not feed a junkies need.

Re: Manditory drug test

I am more then willing to have a 42 dollar test to stop someone from making thousands. :ninja

I have a feeling if the state mandated it, they would do the tests themselves rather than outsource, and in turn save a ton of money. So it would probably only be a $20-25 test (estimate) and that would totally be worth it to me.

Are you then gonna stop them purchasing Coke, lollies, cigarettes and takeaway food as well?

Alcohol also? its a "drug" too, a far worse one than pot.

Re: Manditory drug test

A) the government isnt paying for anything...we are
B) welfare was meant to be temporary,..not extended indefinitely
C) most people on/using "illegal" drugs are not contributing members of society so they do not put back in what they get out...which leads to another form of dependency
D) the current system is not sustainable and if continued will lead to the further oppression of those who have worked, toiled and sacrificed for what they currently have.

its becoming almost like "Pavlov's Dog"..where it seems we are actually training people to be lazy, because a hand out is easier than working and holding down a job

approach a person holding a sign saying "will work for food" or most ay other sign being held on a corner by most panhandlers and offer them a job so that they may earn the food, money etc.....most will refuse.

i'm all for helping people when its needed...but im against giving someone every chance and opportunity just so they can sit on their butts and expect to be taken care of like a child

life is easy,..people make it difficult

While I agree with this in general, when it comes to welfare, I'm totally for it. If you are that badly off that you need the assitance of welfare, then you shouldn't be spending your cash on excess items like drugs (though, I am fairly liberal on the issues of the greenage). However, I would be just as aggravated as the mother who's on welfare and buys her kids designer labels as I would as the mother who's on welfare who likes to smoke up once a week...

I assume that this goes for illegal substances. If its legal why the fuck should it be an issue?

Re: Manditory drug test

But if you want to go that route then I see no reason why thery can't regulate what you buy with your welfare. They do so with ETB and moreso when they had foodstamps. They used to with WIC but have become more open to what you can buy food wise. So why not be able to regulate welfare? But that also brings up another debate about if they do it with Welfare should they do it with Social Security?

So, its alright to neglect your kids by wasting your money on LEGAL things, but NOT illegal? I would say that BOTH are wrong. SO...before you show your usual ignorant colours...use YOUR fucking head, and quit trying to be a wise arse...(shakes head)

Re: Manditory drug test

I live in a state where a big majority are on welfare. Also this is being considered here because a lot of people come here from outta state and set up shop because cost of living is much cheaper than out of state. so they come up here get on welfare and mooch with no intents on finding work. Why should they reap our benefits?

Neglect is neglect whether they're druggies or not... neglect is not the issue.

OK then. I imagine, seeing that you dont work YOU receive some form of welfare? How would YOU feel if you were tested for booze each week, and told you couldn't catch the cab to the club for your weekly "piss up" because these are extras and not necessaties. Just because alcohol is YOUR drug of choice, and its legal, doesnt make it right to pull the Big Brother act on others.

I get SSI for a medical disability... Do they consider that welfare? *I'm seriously unsure*. But to put it honestly... right about now I don't think I'd care. I don't really need to get drunk. Maybe it would be the kick in the balls that I need?
