I get SSI for a medical disability... Do they consider that welfare? *I'm seriously unsure*. But to put it honestly... right about now I don't think I'd care. I don't really need to get drunk. Maybe it would be the kick in the balls that I need?

Well, here...any payment you get from the Government for not working is some form of welfare, yes.

What do you think about establishing better accountability then? What I mean is that recipients of benefits are checked up on, regularly, to be sure that the money is feeding and clothing the kids instead of leaving them dirty and hungry while the money is spent on booze and drugs.

But if you want to go that route then I see no reason why thery can't regulate what you buy with your welfare. They do so with ETB and moreso when they had foodstamps. They used to with WIC but have become more open to what you can buy food wise. So why not be able to regulate welfare? But that also brings up another debate about if they do it with Welfare should they do it with Social Security?

It's EBT...IJS. And as far as Social Security goes, you have to work and pay in to Social Security...not the same thing.

Seeing as half the people around here on Disability are on it for drug addiction, I don't think it would work. Now THAT pisses me off...but that's a whole 'nother subject.

I have to admit, we have a lot of clients on disability for depression...I have worse depression than a number of these people and I would never dream of trying to avoid work because I feel like shit. That's just me, though, it's different for everyone, and I know depression can get extremely debilitating.

My only worry was when my mom was applying for it. The woman is nearly dead, and if SHE didn't get accepted and this girl (age 20, mild depression, just has no motivated) gets it, I was going to kill someone. Luckily she did.

The problem is as soon as you start to target one group for one reason when you omit everyone else you have a problem..

Why are our leaders that wield so much power not required to pee in the jar weekly and tested by an independent lab. We all know many judges and politicians often do this crap.. Cut out the hogs and those who are two faced and claim "this is evil" while they do it themselves. If it's evil, you should not be doing it..

the argument is still void as we keep going back to the simple fact that it's LEGAL... But like I said right now I don't think I'd have a trouble with it being regulated.

The choice of drinking or not drinking alcohol is mine and mine alone.. I stopped drinking 20 years ago of my own will.

If I can be drug tested before I get a job then I don't see anything wrong with being tested before getting on assistance. If you truly are trying to be a good parent and just need that extra help to get by then that's great. If you'd rather worry about your drugs before making sure your kids are fed then you are not a good parent...IJS!
