If the answer somehow becomes "yes" in the furture, we better be having people to qualify and licensing to screw and have children, because their's a crapload of people who shouldn't have them (children).

That should of been "If the answer somehow becomes no in the future..."

Long day yesterday.

Let's just inject a little more reality into the gun debate.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/8259381/Americas-deadliest-sniper-gunned-down-in-US

America's deadliest sniper was one of two people shot dead by a war veteran at a Texas gun range.
A friend says former Navy Seal and American Sniper author Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield, had taken their alleged killer to the range to try and help him as he suffered post-traumatic stress disorder.

A former Navy SEAL and his buddy got shot dead at a gun range.

America's deadliest sniper was unable to save himself or his buddy from a gunman.

Even on a gun range, a veteran with a legally owned weapon was able to kill two people, one a highly decorated former Seal, and escape unharmed.

Would any of our resident gun lovers be audacious enough to claim that they'd have a better chance than the late Chris Kyle?

The idea that carrying a firearm is an effective means of self defence just got dumped in the shitcan where it belongs.

Well shit...it appears as if homicide is actually going down with death by firearms showing the best improvement.
So what we have is more publicity for deaths than we used to have.
Aside from an occasional wacko we have no problem here.
I had been under the impression that homicides were on the rise {due to all the publicity about it}

Tell that to a single lady walking to her car at night....or a single lady who is a victim of a home invasion.
Or hell that old man in Kentucky a few months back that was a victim of a home invasion...hard telling what would have happened with the old man after they crept up the steps then kicked in the door to the upstairs.
A firearm is your best defense is you are put in a life threatening situation.

yeah.... little old ladies are going to respond faster to a threat than one of America's best Navy seals.

And as previously stated,. the old git from Kentucky is a murderer.

Ultimately, if someone has preplaned a strategy for killing, there is a good chance that they may achieve their goal, be it with or without a gun.

Per the story you mentioned, the accused killer may of known the deceased due to his own PTSS during his own service in the military

Any YES, there are more accounts that you can shake a stick at the show that owning a firearms DOES help protect oneself from harm.

That said, for myself, the way I see people treat domesticated pets and children in our soicety, I personally feel the world would be much safer if people had to have licenses to have children and pets before needing to have a permit to own a gun.

Chris Kyle and his neighbor were gunned down by a whacko. Reports state he was shot in the back so drop your rhetoric about being a quick draw on someone proficient with firearms.

This was moving as well:

I watched this video. I think it's pretty poor quality and I hate the fact his lips aren't synced. I keep thinking it's a voice over.

Atlantic Magazine: The Case for More Guns and More Gun Control

Interesting article that states that it's too late, too many guns, can't ban them.

According to a 2011 Gallup poll, 47percent of American adults keep at least one gun at home or on their property, and many of these gun owners are absolutists opposed to any government regulation of firearms. According to the same poll, only 26 percent of Americans support a ban on handguns.

There are an estimated 280*million to 300*million guns in private hands in America—many legally owned, many not. Each year, more than 4*million new guns enter the market. This level of gun saturation has occurred not because the anti-gun lobby has been consistently outflanked by its adversaries in the National Rifle Association, though it has been. The NRA is quite obviously a powerful organization, but like many effective pressure groups, it is powerful in good part because so many Americans are predisposed to agree with its basic message.

That if the Supreme Court or lawmakers even outlawed guns in private hands, we would not have the ability to seize hundreds of millions of guns. The only other option is to come to agreements and enact meaningful gun ownership regulations. The NRA is the real enemy in this issue standing against any an all regulations when it comes to private citizen firearms.

Gun Show Loophole:
People were disgusted that Harris and Klebold (Columbine Shooters), neither of whom was of the legal age to buy firearms, had found a way to acquire guns: an 18-year-old woman, a friend of the two shooters, bought three weapons legally at a gun show, where federal background checks were not required.

about 40 percent of all legal gun sales take place at gun shows, on the Internet, or through more-informal sales between private sellers and buyers, where buyers are not subject to federal background checks. Though anti-loophole legislation passed the U.S. Senate, it was defeated in the House of Representatives.

Gun Magazines:

Other measures could be taken as well. Drum-style magazines like the kind James Holmes had that night in Aurora, which can hold up to 100 rounds of ammunition and which make continuous firing easy, have no reasonable civilian purpose, and their sale could be restricted without violating the Second Amendment rights of individual gun owners.

Argument for private citizens being licensed to carry weapons:

But it is, in fact, possible to assess with some degree of accuracy how many crimes have been stopped because the intended victim, or a witness, was armed. In the 1990s, Gary Kleck and a fellow criminologist, Marc Gertz, began studying the issue and came to the conclusion that guns were used defensively between 830,000 and 2.45*million times each year.

Helpful Measures:
*Mandate background checks.
*Close gun show loop hole regarding background checks
*Longer Waiting periods.
*Doctors report patients who have no business owning a gun.
*Limit magazine size.
*Required Gun Courses

I pass a background check every 5 years for my carry permit. I personally feel that is excessive. I damn sure ain't going to go through a background check every time I purchase ammo. The stupid Cuomo rule makes guns I have owned for 40 years illegal. Most folks don't realize the problem is the whackos not the law abiding gun owner, yet they want to make criminals out of us with feel good laws. You can not legislate behavior, you can only punish it.
