By playing "hero", he made an already dangerous situation into a potential shoot out. its good that it ended up the way it did, but thats not always the case.

Give me an article or some kind of documentation where someone tripped, fell down and killed someone by their gun going off.

Can't imagine that it would be hard to find one. What is the point of all the safety procedures with guns if that isn't something which could easily happen?
LOL Im just saying alot of guns are geared more towards safety. They have pressure plates as well as a safety. Im sure to register a gun so that you're able to carry, would require an inspection of the fire arm to make sure it is safe, not only for the user, but others as well.

Good point but the biggest safety feature surely is how sensible and competent the person carrying a gun is. I don't know the ins and outs of your laws on this but is there some kind of test you need to take first before being given a license to make sure you're competent and sensible enough to use one?
Some people like to collect them. I personally dont like guns, but I collect Japanese weapons. Sai, swords, nunchaku. Its a hobby and they are just as lethal.
It depends on the state you are living in. Where I live it is very easy to get permit to carry a handgun. I believe to get one all you need to do is take a short gun safety class.
