Yeah, I lived in VA for about 11 years myself...all during my Military career. The only places that can legally stop you from bringing in a gun out there are places where children congregate. Schools and Movie theaters being the primary places. There is no Commonwealth Law that states that you cannot bring a sidearm into the WalMart if you have the proper permit to carry it.

In VA you don't need a permit to open carry. Only concealed carry needs a permit.

So you are saying that I could open carry into Wal-Mart? If so, do you know where I could find something in writing that supports this? The site I used to use for gun laws (packin.org) has closed down.

There should be something on the Communistwealth's homepage on it.

See if that gets you anywhere.

Ours just shoot you on the spot on crowded trains without any warning in front of children now, especially if you happen to be Brazillian!:mad

If they have a sign posted, then you cant. Most places like that do.

In VA I think they can say "Weapons not permitted", but then it's up to the store manager to simply deny service...there's no law on the books that I can recall that make it illegal to open carry...it's similar to Texas' law I beleive.

From what I understand you can openly carry them out in AZ, unless the store policy says different.

Well I guess I will just agree to disagree with you and be glad I live in a country with far less gun crime.;) And outlaws arn't the only people who carry guns here, we have the Police who are much better trained to use them responsibly than an average Joe carrying one on his way to the shops.;)

You'd be surprised how trained the average gun owner is. I've been training with a co-worker for a few years. He's ex Marine Recon special forces.

And we've been shooting with local law enforcement at the local gun ranges. I've out-shot one state police officer, one country police officer, and one FBI agent. And I'm still learning.

Also, most places that I know of that have imposed a gun ban (Australia, Washington DC) have had violent crime rates go through the roof. And I live 20 minutes from Washington DC, inside the Virginia border where guns are owned by a large percentage or residents. And the crime here is dramatically lower than that of neighboring DC.

You in Arlington or Springfield?

The law in Va, as a cop friend explained to me, is that the weapon must be visible from 3 sides to not be considered concealed. So a hip holster walking down the street is perfectly acceptable :) However, you aren't allowed to have a weapon in an establishment that sells or serves alcohol. And individual stores may refuse service at their discretion.

I think I'll just play the odds and not take my gun with me into Wal-Mart.

I'm sure I'll be safe in there with the resident down-syndrome door guard. (oh no i didn't!:D)

I just found this....

Subject: RE: Firearms
Thank you for contacting Wal-Mart regarding our concealed handgun policy. Wal-Mart was founded by Sam Walton on three basic principles. Strive for Excellence, Service to our Customers, and Respect for the Individual. It is that respect for the individual that led us to create the current policy pertaining to concealed handguns.
The following is our policy......If a Wal-Mart customer has been awarded a concealed handgun license by the state government, Wal-Mart will follow the direction of the state. However, if at anytime while on Wal-Mart property, that customer's concealed weapon becomes visible to Wal-Mart associates or customers, Wal-Mart reserves the right to ask the customer to either reposition the weapon so that it will not be visible, to remove the weapon completely or to leave Wal-Mart property, With the exception of law enforcement personnel, Wal-Mart does not allow any exposed weapons to be worn or carried in public view on Wal-Mart property or in Wal-Mart stores. Customers other than law enforcement personnel wearing or carrying a weapon in an exposed manner will be asked to leave the property immediately.

Can anyone please explain to me what good reason you could possibly have for taking a gun into a general shop anyway? Forget for a minute the argument about it being constitutional and your right ect, what possible good reason could you need to pop down the shops with it?:confused
