I just started watching the PPV... and have successfully avoided reading any spoilers thus far. I'm going to type my thoughts as I watch the even this time. I didn't realize that the chamber is 10 years old now... and I also don't think I've ever actually watched a chamber match. I've played them in video games, and seen clips of them, but this is the first time I've seen one in its entirety.
First surprise - they're putting the WWE Championship match as the opener... it's generally considered to be the top title in the company, so I would've thought that going by history, it'd go last.
I think pairing Dolph with Vickie was the best thing to happen to his career. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether they're trying to have him channel Curt Hennig or Ric Flair.
Kofi and Punk starting off... Kofi is in the ultimate "almost" position in the company right now. They elevate him when they need someone else in a bigger match like this with multiple competitors, but he can't really break through to the top. That being said, I think that Bourne's continued substance abuse problems have benefited Kofi. I think he's got some main even potential moving on, if he can further develop his mic skills. That being said, the match has started.
Kofi with a hurdle over the ropes... his athleticism is nothing short of amazing. Great chain wrestling between Kori and Punk to start off the match... I love watching stuff like this, and it isn't showcased enough in WWE today. So, I'm counting two faces, two heels, a heel that the crowd loves, and a nutcase. :24:
Kofi took the first two big bumps in the match, with the catapult into the chamber and the suplex onto the grating.
Now we've got the first chamber opening up... and we've got Vickie's boy toy coming straight after punk. I loved the knee-ups into the leg drop onto Punk. :24:
My money is on nobody getting eliminated before all six men are in the ring. And a huge mid-air collision between Punk and Kofi... cool spot, even though it didn't make any sense... what were they trying to accomplish?
Fourth cell about to open, and it is......... the man that talks to Little Jimmy and spiders. :24:
I'm so fucking sick of hearing Cole call things "patented"... unless they filed an application with the patent office, it isn't fucking patented. But we hear it all the damn time... Orton's patented this, Punk's patented this, blah blah blah... fucking hell it's annoying.
Well, Truth gets eliminated following a Macho Man elbow drop from Punk, so there went my prediction. Kofi is the spot monkey in this match... spidered onto the wall, and then the ddt to Ziggler onto the grating... it looked to take a lot out of him as well.
I have to laugh at Booker... he's so bad he's awesome.
I don't know if there are very many moves in wrestling that I like more than a powerslam... and Miz gets saved by Jericho entering the match. Speaking of moves I like... the Lionsault was one of my favorites from back in WCW, and then the Codebreaker to eliminate Ziggler.
Fairly entertaining match so far... not as many spots as I was expecting, but it's been pretty good. Well, the pod attack on Punk's shoulder was a really good one... and there's the spotmonkey again... hell, I don't even know who did what to whom in that move. :24: @ Cole, "Miz tried to sneak one through the back door". hahaha
Kofi headed to the top of the pod... and a crossbody onto Punk and Miz, that was a nice one... which then led to him tapping on to the Walls of Jericho. All of the stuff wit Jericho attacking Kofi after he was eliminated is just to try and make him turn full heel in the minds of the fans.... well, I guess it was to take him out of the ring. I really don't understand why they have to do angles like this, it detracts from the actual match and cheapens the experience for the fans that paid to see it. Hopefully it won't go to a full screwjob finish or something. I guess they could give Jericho a title match at the end of the event, which would make sense for why this was held at the beginning of the event.
Punk with the win... it'll be interesting to see what happens with the Jericho situation, if it'll get resolved tonight, or if it'll give Jericho a claim to a Wrestlemania match.
A Santino segment... fast forward.
Another Cena is awesome montage... eh, I'll watch part of it.
Divas championship match... I'll do what I'm sure a number of fans in the arena did... bathroom break. I'm back, and wow... a superplex in a Divas match, yeah... Tamina and Beth certainly aren't Eve and Kelly Kelly. :24:You can tell that the fans really don't give a shit about this match. Glam slam, and a Beth Phoenix win... Kharma is gonna take the belt from her soon enough.
Kudos on WWE for their anti-bullying campaign, but I'll fast forward. More Santino? No thanks.
Oh yay, it's time for Johnny Ace and Mr. Coffee for a "major announcement". I haven't read up on anything or paid attention since RAW, so I honestly don't know what's coming. OIh, now we're gonna put him in charge of Smackdown too? Oh wait... it's Del Rio making his triumphant return... I've never been so glad to hear that music hit, anything to shut up Mr. Personality. Now we've got Mark Henry headed down to the ring... for as much as I'm hoping he'll slam all of the tools in the ring, I'm sure he'll be trashing Teddy Long as well. Damn I'm good.
Captain Charisma... I'm sure he'll be saying the same thing as the other two. But he's still one of my favorite wrestlers of all time... one of the best on the microphone today. Sweet, it's photo-op time... God this is ridiculous. I feel bad for the people that spent money for this crap. :24:
More Santino, pass.
A Big Show interview... short and sweet... and now it's time for the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match. I guess Kane and Cena is going on last?
Based on who is in the match, I think it's a foregone conclusion that Bryan is going to retain the title headed into Wrestlemania. Show vs. Sheamus just wouldn't make sense. Barrett could be the other option, but I don't know if he's really ready for the main event stage, but that's just my opinion.
Gotta agree with the fans on this one... Show vs. Barrett... BOORING! Oh thank God, someone else is coming into the ring... and Cody Rhodes heads on into the ring. Okay, and the match got a little unboring... Show throwing Rhodes like a lawn dart into the side of the chamber was pretty damn sweet. I think Rhodes is becoming the spotmonkey in this match. :24: Thank God we have someone else headed into the match... oh wait, it's Santino. I'm giving him about two minutes in the match. This has been an incredibly slow and plodding match. Wow, I think that Santino has made is almost three minutes in this thing now. Nice double suplex from Rhodes and Barrett on Show on the grating. Spectacular moonsault from Rhodes onto Barrett... very well executed. Now it's time for Santino to get removed from the match. :24: To nobody's surprised... Khali is the 5th man in the match. Wow... who would've thought that Santino lasted longer in the match than Khali did? It's funny how Barrett and Rhodes have focused on Show's legs for the entire match, and yet he lays down for a few minutes and his legs seem to have miraculously recovered. Show ripping the chains off the top of Bryan's pod is a pretty cool thing... but fucking hell this match sucks. Show in the same pod as Bryan... and finally, what... a good 20 minutes into the match and it's finally started to pick up. Bryan gets launched through the side of his pod from the outside... damn that was crazy. Rhodes and Barrett combine to take Show out of the match... can't say that I didn't see that coming. Bahaha... Santino eliminates Rhodes, that's hilarious. Wow, this thing is getting sloppy as hell now that we're presumably reaching the end of it. Damn, I hope Bryan doesn't want to have any kids with how many times he's ended up with the rope between his legs. Bryan with a headbutt from the top to Barrett and Santino pins him. :24: Santino hits the Cobra on Bryan, who kicks out and then puts Santino into the LeBell lock who then taps out.
So, I think we've got Bryan vs. Sheamus and CM Punk vs. Jericho for our Wrestlemania top title matches. The Smackdown Elimination Chamber match started out horribly, and ended in a halfway decent fashion.
Speaking of Sheamus, he confronts Bryan in the ring and takes him out. I think that pretty much announced who he's taking on at WM.
Now we've got Swagger vs. Gabriel for the US Title. To be completely honest, I didn't even know this was a match for tonight, nor did I even remember that Swagger was the US Champion. :24: Wait... when did Hornswaggle learn how to talk? No matter, Swagger gets Gabriel to tap out and retain his forgotten championship.
