Babies are motivated by their basic drives, they don't just go off for a little minuscule thing. It's usually for things like hunger, sleep, burping/farting. I don't think a baby would even be disturbed by a fly landing on it.

I've seen babies go berserk over insects crawling on or near them before.
this pretty much puts a foot in the ass of the pain argument...
If you haven't read before, when babies go into a sleep after being circumcised, it may possibly be because they are in shock.
I'm not saying that's impossible, but there is no real proof of it either.
its also preferred to have it done while an infant because babies/kids heal faster than they do as adults. which is why its better to get tonsils taken out as a kid than it is to get them taken out as an adult

I agree that it shouldn't be banned. It's easier for a baby to recover and its easier for a parent to care for and make sure the area is kept clean and covered with petroleum jelly. Babies also heal quicker than adults do and that's usually the case for any surgery.
And the Wiki link I read showed that it's more common to use local anesthesia now. And the study cited was from more than 10 years ago.
