to me a gun is a device for protecting my home and wife. It's always locked with a trigger guard in a safe an unloaded. Not everyone that owns a gun is a felon.
That's the part I don't understand and I used to own a 44 when it was easier to do in Canada.

Suppose for a minute a bad guy, or a group of bad guys bust into your home. Are you going to have enough time to open the safe, remove the trigger guard, load the weapon and use it to protect you and your family or will you have to ask the bad guys for permission to be able to get that time?

"Yet another killing because they were too easy for screw ups to get hold of"
What the fuck do you mean by that?!

Your view of America is severely twisted if I'm interpreting this right. It's not the goddamn wild west. We don't walk around in the streets, 6 shooters a blazin' shooting the hell out of anything that moves. We keep guns under our beds, in our closets, in shoe boxes tucked away in a corner of the room or on top of a cabinet. We don't play around with them like simple toys. We have them for a purpose, and we use them for that purpose. No more, often less.
so do gang members

and most responsable people keep them locked away and not just laying around under beds, shoe boxes or tucked away in the corner of a room

As odd as it sounds, that scenario happens pretty regularly. More than one thug has met his end at the hands of an armed homeowner that had time to retrieve, unsecure and load a weapon.

Ah, but tell me this.

When the gov't makes having a firearm illegal, who do you think will abide by the laws, the gang member, or the middle class suburban family? The middle class suburban family of course. So now what do you have? You have a gang armed to the teeth, and an unarmed suburban family. Wouldn't you rather give the family a chance to deter the gang members?

Plus, gang members do not acquire firearms legally (very often at least), so passing a law prohibiting the sale of firearms to citizens would do nothing to help.

point was that some do act like the wild west with them and not everyone is responsable with them. and a "gang armed to the teeth" does kinda sound like the wild west as you got on pete for

Gang activity has faaaar more to do with our asinine war on drugs than our firearms policy. If they didn't have black market profits to battle over, there might be a lot less reason to fight....

I'm not fascinated with firearms, but I do own a few that were given to me by my father. I think every family should own one responsibly.

My position on the gun issue is simple.

Criminals will get their hands on guns regardless of the circumstances, whether they are banned or not. Thus all Americans should be allowed to defend themselves against an armed intruder, simple as that.

My position is simpler: The Constitution says I can.

True to that!

Now wait for the liberals who come along and say that the constitution doesn't protect the individual's right to bear arms but rather allows the government to form a militia. :thumbdown

You know I've thought going to a shooting range could be some seriously good stress relief. I have a range about 2 miles from where I work. If guns weren't so expensive, I'd seriously consider it.

you can rent them @ the range and they'll show you the proper way to use it. You can also find used ones for cheap too :)
