There are so many interpretations of hell, you know.
But yes, I am happy with my decision.
quick question:What's wrong with believing that God created the world (and NOT necessarily in six 24-hour periods and NOT necessarily 6,000 years ago), created man in his own image, that Jesus was His son and walked the face of the Earth, died on the cross for our sins and was resurrected three days later?

What's the harm in that? You wouldn't be any dumber or smarter. Why NOT believe? :dunno Just wondering...:smiley24:

Why NOT believe? :dunno Just wondering...:smiley24:

... & why not believe that a flying giant Spaghetti monstor created the world or that we are balanced on the back of a turtle carried by 3 elephants or that a serpent created man during the dreamtime, or that we all live mutiple incarnations seeeking Nirvana.

Just because you chose one of the Origin Myths that man has come up with since we began telling stories, does not mean it is the true one. There must be hundreds of Gods & Creation Myths, but what you are doing is just settling on the one that you like the most.

What is wrong with looking for the truth - the facts?

Well, jesus was a real person, I just think of him as more of a regional philosopher, and a cult formed around him and attributed "miracles" to him.

I don't think theres anything "wrong" with believing those things. I just don't think its believable, personally. I CANNOT put my "faith" into something I cannot prove.

I do believe that there is something wrong with believing those things. It creates tension that is so obvious in today's society. It allows for believers to push for the teaching of things that they believe, as science.

Sorry, but I truly thought that the last post would stir up a hornets nest. Oh well.

Maybe everyone can spot wrigglers.

you didnt' answer the question, and I find that telling.

nothing wrong with that. Most people do it all the time. It happens to be a very big part of my job, too. And I don't think that seeking truth and facts has to be mutually exclusive to having faith in a higher power

lucid reasoning. I like lucid reasoning.

seems to put a limit on what you can do. It's like saying, "I don't believe my gf is coming to see me until she gets here and I actually see her." Because until that moment, you only have your faith in that she loves you enough to come see you. She could change her mind, but you don't believe she will.
Ida know, just another way to look at faith.

I don't think it limits anything, it just puts relativistic logic to everything. I don't "believe" she is coming, I THINK she is coming, since something could happen that prevents her from coming.

Nothing wrong in believing the stories, as long as you don't open your mouth and try to defend them as the truth. As soon as you voice those beliefs you may (almost surely) generate hate, then fear and then someone will want to kill you. Why, because they DON'T believe the same stories.
