Us humans are not actually carnivours at all, we have just got that way over time.

I just want to point out that I don't care what you eat, we are very lucky, well those of us not in the Third world, to have a huge choice in what we eat.

There is however one thing that I would like to clear up, when our ancestors first came down from the trees, they ate mainly vegetarian but over time they (our ancestors) developed a taste for meat. Without the protein supplied by the meat, mostly from the bone marrow, it is thought that the enlargement of the brain that led to modern man would not have happened.

Modern man is not a Carnivore, nor a Herbivore, our teeth are wrong for both of these classes. Modern man is an Omnivore, we are able to eat many different foods. We have teeth for ripping & chewing. We need small amounts of animal flesh in our diet as well as large amounts of fibre. These are the facts.

Hi Allan

I dnt knock anyone for what they eat.

All I know, is what my preferences are.

I am a veggie, purely cos I dnt like that taste and that tough chewy thing with meat, that's all.

In my opinion, as I have said somewhere on this thread - ppl can eat what they like. My son and partner and frnds do.

Infact, out of all my frnds, my son and partner, I'm the only veggie and it's never a prob eating out, or going to their houses.

Yes, we can eat most things, I wasn't saying we were one thing and not the other - I was just mentioning that we are not carnivours.

We dnt actually need meat, small amounts or otherwise, in our bodies - we just need a balance of protein, etc, which, believe it or not, something like beans on toast wld b far more pure in protein, than eating a bit of red meat frm a cow that's bn pumped with steroids etc, that's all. This is very common knowledge and a fact, certainly in this country.

I never try to convince ppl to eat just veggie food. I was just joining in the posts on this thread.

Freespeech. :)

I could be wrong on this but I am pretty sure that there is a dietary requirement for animal fats, not a lot, but I remember reading somewhere that the brain needs it to help in the manufacture of something.

Maybe these fats can be gotten in another way - not sure.

Well, if you find the facts about the fats frm animals being a dietry requirement, u wanna post on this thread? Not wot I heard, but as I dnt eat meat..... I still wld't eat it anyway, it's a gross taste. I had to, growing up, but for years I haven't. Still, wld be interesting if what you say is so. :)

It wouldn't be animal fats... unless you can find an article or something. That'd be appreciated.

There are theories about animal proteins, though, but theoretically animal proteins are worse for you than plant proteins because animal protein also contains sulphur.

You can't B12 from any natural source other than meat, but most vegetarian supplements and soy milk and such are fortified with it.

Plants are living organisms too! They also react in some way when mutilated (Wether it be pruning, harvesting of fruits etc)... Plants have feelings too :p

Seriously though... I eat meat, and I eat plant matter... both are equally 'alive' in my opinion.

I just can't eat something I knew by name at some stage.

Plants don't have nervous systems; they don't feel pain.

Harvesting fruit doesn't hurt or kill the plant. The fruit will eventually fall off anyway. Plants heal themselves very well, and without the pain that an animal would feel.

bacon is making the point that a persons choice not to eat meat overrides their instinct to do so.

Sorry Freespeech, but you're wrong. :)
