bacon is making the point that a persons choice not to eat meat overrides their instinct to do so.

Sorry Freespeech, but you're wrong. :)

I still say, that as we are not Carnivours, it's not instinctive to eat meat. Therefore me making the choice not to eat meat, is.

Still awaiting the article that Allan said he read re our bodies needing certain amounts of animal fats or something. Be interesting to know where it came from and what it said.

Modern man is not a Carnivore, nor a Herbivore, our teeth are wrong for both of these classes. Modern man is an Omnivore, we are able to eat many different foods. We have teeth for ripping & chewing. We need small amounts of animal flesh in our diet as well as large amounts of fibre. These are the facts.

Allan

Thanks for saying it all for me.
And I don't care who is vegan or fruitarian or any other lifestyle choice one can make for themself. I'm all about people doing their own thing. How boring it would be if we were all alike.

Not fats, but B12...

The only reliable unfortified sources of vitamin B12 are meat, dairy products and eggs. There has been considerable research into possible plant food sources of B12.

read it all here

Sorry, it's a good thing you weren't holding your breath - although I'm sure you would have turned a pretty shade of blue before you died.

I had a look for that reference but could not find anything - it may have been pre internet but still thought I could find something.

Based on what I did read - I'm not entirely convinced now, though, that we actually need to eat meat to survive in the modern world. It is indeed fortunate that we can pop into a local supermarket & pick up everything that we need to nourish our bodies - even substituting fruits & nuts for meat... BUT this does not mean that man would have made it this far without meat nor does it make vegetarianism a viable option for all mankind.

I like meat & I intend to continue eating it for as long as I have teeth.

Hi Allan.

No, didn't hold my breath. LOL :D Been very pale this last week though, but that was due to having flu, not waiting for your article. :D

Nevermind - at the end of the day, we are all each to our own, but still able to get on with others'. Especially on here, eh? Ria

I definitely acknowledge that, without meat, humans would not have evolved as they have.

I'm lucky to live in a place where I can make the choice to live without meat healthily.

My body doesn't pick up on iron and I go anaemic when I avoid meat (no matter how much I substitute and supplement) - so I have little option, although I don't eat meat often. To each their own I suppose.
