I don't really care how it's done, so much as I care that it does get done. Obviously they're not really just going to round them up and ship them out in the middle of the night.

The problem with this situation is that there is no clear, easy answer. If we give them amnesty, then we're rewarding them for breaking the law. If we kick them out, we're soulless, racist bastards.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
There is an easy solution for future immigrants which I have been saying throughout this entire thread....make a reasonable immigration policy.

With the hundreds of billions of dollars it costs the US, I wonder if that money could be invested in making Mexico a better country.

Would it be possible to help Mexico become a economic powerhouse in the world economy? If we could, it would benefit us more ways than we could imagine. People who came from Mexico would be much more interested in going home. We would benefit through trade and commerce... Hell it's North America... we should all work together.
NAFTA? :dunno

:p

But that doesn't address the ones already here, which is the biggest problem in my opinion.

Make all of them go through the immigration process while living here.
There's gotta be some incentive though. We can't just say "Hey, come sign up so you can pay taxes". I don't think too many would jump at that opportunity.

How do you make them do it? Especially when we don't even know where/who they all are.

I haven't thought of that yet. I will though. Like you said yourself, I do not have all the answers.

Just like when the government wants people who don't pay their taxes to come forward. You have an amnesty program that runs for a specified period of time. If you don't come forward in that set time frame, then you have to live with the fact that you will now be tracked down and deported. If given that option, you should be able to handle everyone...

Come in and become a citizen or face very hard times without the chance of becoming a citizen... a freeby that you can't pass up.

They're called Illegal for a reason. It's wrong. They shouldn't do it, and every single one that we can ship back, SHOULD be shipped back with NO $$ that they made in the US. Most of the time, the Mexicans work their way from the bottom of the US, up to the top of the US by working from farm to farm. Saving money, then, when they get to the Canadian border, WE, the US, ship them BACK to Mexico, FREE OF CHARGE with all their money in the pocket. Bullshit. We should strip them of EVERYTHING they own, except for ONE change of clothes, and then, BOOT, get the HELL outta here. Come back when you're legal.

It's that easy? How do you do it? I can't even get in the US for a holiday, let alone work and make some money there!:eek

Most of them pay upwards of $1500 to $2000 each to be escorted across and then given a ride to an area where they can get work with no documentation. Kinda makes me wonder how much more (or less) it would take to just do it right?

It's an opinion. You don't have to agree with it, or hell, you don't even have to like it. I don't care. It's MY opinion and I'll stick by it.

No, I was born here legally. My mom is 100% German. My dad is 1/3 Native American. Now what?
Legal in the laws that were set up by people that originally came here illegally, stole away their land and committed genocide upon their entire people. That sort of sets up a hypocritical system, does it not?

But thats besides the point. You can't just ethically pack up people and ship them off to an even worse situation.
