The Coast Guard is a branch of the NAVY now, I believe.

yes intruder, I'm intentionally lying about my father's military career for kicks.

The Coast Guard and the Navy have the same officer rank structure. The Coast guard will not re-commission an officer who is not qualified to move past the rank of O-1, which is what a second lieutenant is in the other three branches.

Why don't you just drop it man. You've been busted. A 2 second google search will confirm it for you.

Well I don't want you to think I'm lying, because I'm not. I posted the pic of the rank he has on his uniform a few posts up.

It really isn't a big deal mang.

I don't understand how the mistake was made, but that isn't important. Maybe this would be a good oportunity for you and your dad to spend some time getting to know eachother better?

I appreciate that you're not a military guy, but as a military guy, what you posted about your dad's career is giberish. I don't know how best to say it.

It'd be like me telling you I went to your school, but then started naming a bunch of classes you guys don't offer. Know what I mean?

Too many interesting stories to really pick one. What branch / nation do you work? Conscription recruit?

I spent 5 years in the service. My home station was on the East Coast of the U.S.

I worked on an aircraft called the A-10 Warthog. My unit was the 23rd Fighter Group which is a famous U.S. military unit. They started as an American Volunteer Group fighting in China. Maybe you're heard of the "Flying Tigers?"

This is my current desktop. The prop fighter in front is what the AVG guys flew in WWII. The Jet in back is the A-10. The unit is very distinctive with the shark teeth.

(Sorry about the picture size. Hopefully Tim will swing in and change it for me? [I have no photo SW on my machine])

I spent about 6 months every year I was in over in the Middle East. Kuwait mostly, but I've been to Saudi, Oman, Yemen, Afghanistan, etc... Basically if it was sandy, we spent time there. Our primary mission was flying "Sandy" C.A.S.

When I was in Afghanistan, we were working closely with a group of British Royal Marines who gave us a great 4th of July present (U.S. Independence Day) by letting us load and fire their Howitzers on a fire for effect mission. Had some enemy recon elements blow themselves up in the Russian minefield outside of our base.

A poor Polish officer managed to find a mine left over on base, and lost his leg while out for a jog. :(

Lots of good times. Working all night, but still having the energy to play bones until the sun came up. Launching missions in 20*F freezing rain weather.

Great friends. Good times and hard times. Young drama with new families going through long bouts of separation.

What about you?

Well back to the original point, the ten commandments tell you not to kill. They also tell you to have no other Gods but me. No distinction made between the seriousness of the offenses. The Bible is full of inconsistances anyway. The 10 commandments were given to the Israelites who were also told by God apparently to kill their enemies and to stone to death their own children if they found them having sex outside marriage. Dosen't make much sense to me!

There is no distinction made, because there is no distinction. Any break in the law is a broken law. It was very black and white.

There are distinctions made specifically between murdering and combat. The Bible is not inconsistant on this point. It is clear. The problem is, people who want to argue against, take a single line out of hundreds of pages, and try to lock the Bible into that one specific thought.

You can't do that with anything and expect to be very well rounded. Can't do it with people, can't do it with modern literature, you can't do it when discribing a historic event such as the Crusaids. For some reason, people who think things through very clearly, are willing to toss aside all argumentative abilities when it comes to knocking the Bible.

Want to go back to our inconsistancies discussion from last year? :)

Please tell me how stoning someone to death because they had their end away is anything other than murder?:confused

We appear to be two people separated by a common language Pete. :) Please clarify "their end away." Sorry. :(

God himself murdered off the most of mankind, if you believe in Genesis.

By your logic, the state is at fault for everybody who is in prison today. How can you deny it? They sent police out and forcefully detain people against their will, and throw them behind locked bars like animals.

Choices have consequences even in a world of anarchy.
