The Trials and Tribulations of One Freak of Nature

You should've come and asked me for a loan, Siph. :p I actually ended up giving out loans to a couple of people and telling them not to bother to repay me as I don't need anymore tokenz.

!!! A free gift. I like you :) but yeah, I can understand with your accrual rate ;) Still, I think I could have won Zirc but I'd have been real short. I'll remember your offer next time

I've got a mare who is looking rather uncomfortable at the moment. Might get a foal tonight. eusa_pray.png

If she doesn't foal tonight then I'm going to miss it because she'll probably foal in the next day or so and this is my last night before my weekend off. Story of my life.

You could always work more days to see her foal and then take those days off in lieu (if they let you).

I was reminded of you when I saw this story the last couple of days:

She was going to go down with the horse she said. Would you do that?

OK, so I am frustrated, pissed off, embarressed and all that crap. I watched that overdue mare like a hawk last night and she did nothing. I stayed until 7:00am when the day crew came in just in case and she was still doing nothing. On my way home I stopped for breakfast at Timmies. I got home, took out my contacts, changed into my pj's and was just going to settle down on the couch to eat my breakfast when the farm owner called. One of the mares who was due next week had foaled and she asked if I would go back to the farm to help out a bit. I feel like such an idiot! My guess is that mare foaled around 6:30am but I missed it because I was paying such close attention to the other mare, to the exclusion of everything else. It's times like this that I feel absolutely USELESS at my job. I'm being paid good money to work nights so that the mares don't foal unsupervised and then this happens. glavauzid.png

I think I'm going to suggest the name Shenanigans for this foal (it's a filly :D). I think there were definitely shenanigans going on because this mare foaled out of the blue. Was NOT expecting her to foal until next week. :willy_nilly:

Back on the frustrating note, the mare I was watching so close last night foaled this evening at 7:30. So I missed another mare foaling. WHY THEY HATE ME????? sad057.png

That sucks, it would drive me nuts too. :(

Can't they induce a mare so you caan deliver another one?
HELL NO! I would rather miss every single mare foaling than have them induce. :willy_nilly:

Sorry, but I am vehemently opposed to inducing mares. They induced a couple of mares because of MRLS when I was foaling in Kentucky one year. It was one big mess and I don't think it was worth the trouble. Believe me, it's not like it is with humans. If the mare does not start labour naturally, THAT FOAL IS NOT READY TO BE BORN. Both of the foals I dealt with could not stand or nurse properly. One of them crashed the next night and had to be rushed to the vet hospital. (For those who do not know, when a horse crashes it means its body starts shutting down.) Not sure what happened to the other one as it was moved out of my barn after it was born.

So...I was informed that another of our mares foaled this afternoon. glavauzid.png Actually, I should be 0 for 5 because the one mare that I did foal out did so when I was working some extra hours on my weekend off.

For crying out loud, I may as well go back on days. It is absolutely pointless for me to be on nights. This is my third year doing nights for Rae-Dawn and it's the same bullshit every year. glavauzid.png
