How many Catholics do you know who were given the opportunity to vote for him? Sorry but a couple of hundred old priests voting on who should be the leader of a religion of over a billion people dosen't exactly sound very democratic.

That is how the Pope is elected, it has been done for nearly two millennium, and I am not bothered about not electing a Pope, and I am sure billions don't care either

So what's your point? My point still stands, one leader who no one voted for gets to invite over a religious leader who 99.999% of Catholics didn't vote for and tax payers are forced to pick up the bill.

I do have a point, just you don't get that the Vatican is a recognised state, who elects its own leader, who is currently the Pope, now will you end the discussion on this, because you are making a laugh of yourself :thumbup

I guess you have been reading too much of the newspapers, they can speculate what they like, I don't think you or the media will come up with proof :thumbup

There are a number of reports into child abuse at the hands of the catholic churches. And there have been numerous court cases that have found members of the church to be guilty of child abuse.
This thing goes on, and you might not want to hear it. But it's true, and top ranking members of the clergy are trying very hard and have been for 30 years to sweep it under the rug.

But you have accused the current Pope of doing that, so far it is pure speculation

Nobody has done that. You're getting confusing with culpibility. He is culpible and answerable to all crimes performed under the banner of the catholic church. If he knows about it and does nothing, he is obstructing justice. And if he doesn't, he is grossly negligent.

How is he negligent when he can't control all the priests and bishops and cardinals? He can't possibly know what all are up too, can he?

That is not an excuse. So I'd recommend you rethink your rebuttal and come back to me when you've got something better. (Negligence isn't an issue of power or control by the way...)

If Relgious leaders can get a state visit then I want David Miscavige (leader of scientology) to get one.

It would only be fair.

no..the current pope condoned the mass murder of jews

This line of thought is ridiculous.

The Hitler Youth was a political movement set up that required the voluntary enrolment of all children from the age of 14 in Germany and Austria. Whatever crimes the pope might be answerable too, a political movement that he joined as a child through no fault of his own is not one of them.

Really, so you think you know everything what goes on everywhere? Well if you don't think that is good answer the question

Erm, that has nothing to do with anything, he has repented of his past, gone straight, went into the priesthood to do some good, and all you have to offer is his past as a 14 year boy? It is much better than looking up to prozzie going football players:thumbup

And just becuase he was a member doesn't mean he agreed because from 1935? 1936? (it's been nearly 5 years since I memorised these dates) it was compulsory for all young Arayan men. I know one member of Hitler Youth actually started a Nazi resistence group called White Rose but I can't remember his name and I am too lazy to wiki it.

Why are you asking if I know 'everything what goes on everywhere.' What bearing does that have on what we were discussing before? I won't pander to your frequent attempts to stear the topic onto unrelated grounds.

I want you to prove to me, how the pope has not been negligent in his handling of the numerous child abusers under his employ.
