-- The Raw rating was a 3.05, pretty good considering the opposing BCS sports game did the biggest rating in cable TV history (a 17.8). The ratings from next week onwards will be unopposed, so the annual increase in ratings *should* start happening over the next few weeks.
-- Stevie Richards is gone from TNA. He tweeted that he has quit the company amicably.
"They're just running shows," Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio Sunday night after the PPV. "I sensed from TNA a couple of months ago that you really got the attitude that you show up for work and you just kind of keep going. But that enthusiasm that had been there, it wasn't really there anymore. Now it's kind of like, well, keep going, you just keep going. It's not like there's the hope of catching up to WWE or doing something really good or putting on better shows than the opposition. It's just kind of like, you keep going. There wasn't that hope of, well, we can build up the TV rating. It's kind of like, this is where the TV rating is going to stay, it's not going to move much no matter what we do, we don't have any big matches to build to, no big feuds, the Jeff Hardy turn with Hulk Hogan didn't do shit for business and may have hurt them slightly at the house shows. It's just kind of where it is. Do the TV, kind of do some storylines, but they're going to be where they're going to be and there isn't going to be a lot of change."
Most likely the story of 2011 will be that TNA spun their wheels for an entire year, signed a few deals here and there, lost a few deals here and there, signed some guys and released others, and then at the end of December finished with a 1.1 rating and 1.4 million viewers. I wish that would change because I'm sick of writing the same article every year. But I see little evidence that it will.
Bryan doesn't think that TNA is dead (loves the house shows, has attended one himself, but decried the lack of advertising), but doesn't see any way that they can grow unless they somehow manage a full twelve months of strong TV and great PPVs as they have no golden carrots left to attain. They've lost Reaction, business is down, ratings are the same as always, Russo's claims of leaving the writing team were empty, and the wrestlers don't care any more. Court Bauer, former WWE writer, stated that he felt that "you can look back at the last 8 years and there's NO equity in their built mythology. Nothing resonates, there's no equivalent to a 'WrestleMania moment' for TNA. If TNA were to sell their assets tomorrow, the tape library is fairly worthless unless WWE is buying it with the intent to salvage early matches featuring CM Punk and others for home video content." and suggested TNA spend their time on rebuilding the brand, regaining the trust of fans and Spike TV, renaming the PPVs ("they sound like porno titles") and tapping into the latino market as strongly as possible. "And finally, move away from being so low brow. From the 'asshole Kennedy' gimmick to the antiquated 90s wrestling portrayal of women on their programming, it's terrible, trite and dumbed-down content that insults the intelligence of the wrestling audience that's currently watching now and alienating the audience the potential audience that doesn't turn in." The entire Court Bauer audio interview is really good, if anyone has a subscription.
-- John Cena tweeted that he was fined by WWE for using the word "ass" on television. Alvarez doesn't believe this to be the case, as there was a decision made months ago by the writers to try and push the envelope a little further to appease those upset by the PG rating.
-- Sean Waltman, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall are all claiming that they will be at the WWE Hall of Fame this year.
-- AJ Styles is legitimate injured due to trying to catch his son during a four-wheeler accident. He is expected to be about for two months, but surgery could prolong it to five months.
I imagine he'll return at the Rumble. I don't think he'll win it (rather Cena or Punk) but he'll eliminate Sheamus and then they'll either have a big grudge match on Raw OR just promo it out until the Elimination Chamber PPV and have a match there, however considering Raw will likely have a WWE Title Chamber match at that event it'll probably be a big blow off Raw match. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, they are also booked for a streetfight on the live Raw event on March 19th.
