News from Big Dave~
-- A report from TNA's Abu Dhabi show was really bad. The expensive ringside rows were only half sold, the show went short, the matches went shorter, promotion was non-existent, and the crowd didn't know how to react to Jeff Hardy but ended up cheering him as the babyface star. To TNA's defence, they are sold shows which means a third party paid TNA a lump sum for the shows. The promoters told TNA that the shows were sold out, but they were far from. They ran a 4,000 seater that should have sold out, and it did 400. Another show did 350. The next show did 250. During the latter stages of the tour, they reworked the card to allow Hardy to work as the babyface since the fans loved him. The wrestlers themselves treated it as a vacation.
-- Superstar Billy Graham and Bobby Heenan were hospitalised recently, but Heenan is back home. Neither are in good health, though.
-- Raven is now a stand-up comedian, working with Rev. Bob Levy (of Killers of Comedy and Howard Stern fame). Colt Cabana, Mick Foley, RVD and King Kong Bundy have also been doing stand-up shows.
-- Despite what TV suggests, Rhino might not be resigning with TNA.
-- MCMG vs. GenMe will be a Full Metal Mayhem (TLC) match at Final Resolution. "They may set the bar two weeks before WWE does the gimmick match to a level that the WWE guys won’t be able to match. Not that it matters because if you have a ****½ star match in an empty forest, you can argue whether it actually had an impact. "
-- Vince McMahon hasn't given up on Brock Lesnar appearing at Wrestlemania, as made obvious during Raw. Lesnar really wants to do the show, but Dana is adamantly against it. The payoff would be $2-3million and Lesnar's autobiography (written with Paul Heyman) comes out a couple of weeks after Wrestlemania.
-- Dean Malenko did have a heart procedure after all, having a stent put in.
-- Miz made the cover of the SmackDown vs. Raw game because WWE believed he would take on the rigorous media handling schedule. Miz has become the new media go-to guy and, much like Cena, seems to work very hard with it where others would balk. Most media people who deal with him seem to love him, much like they do with Cena too. WWE were also really happy with how much publicity his title win got in the mainstream media.
-- "On the European shows, when Vince wasn’t there and HHH was producing the announcers, it was like night-and-day. HHH said very little to them during the broadcasts, as opposed to all the swearing and demeaning and screaming. And when he did have a point, he usually waited until a break to make it."
-- There may be a PPV announcer change soon. Todd Grisham isn't well liked right now by management, and both Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler hate working with Matt Striker. CM Punk may get the spot, but WWE don't want SmackDown's team to look like the 'B' team. Cole and Lawler have pushed hard for JR to be brought back for big shows.
-- "At the Raw show in Orlando, a fan sitting at ringside came in dressed up in Hulk Hogan merchandise. Security made him remove almost all of it, but he was given a “Stand Up for WWE” T-shirt to wear."
-- And a note from the radio show, regarding Kurt Angle in MMA: when he was fired from WWE, he was offered a big deal from UFC but they wanted exclusivity whereas he was ready to sign with TNA and do both. Bodog offered him big money to fight Daniel Puder, and IFC (? - I think, don't quote me) offered him big money to fight Ken Shamrock. Obviously, he never took any of the deals.
