What happens if you, or the parents, change your minds...not that I can see that happening, but I'm sure it has to be covered.

Change your mind when? Before you're pregnant and while you're going through the process? Or when you're pregnant?

I guess anytime...but most importantly after you're pregnant...what if the parents back out, can't see it, but I imagine all "what ifs" are covered.

Before hand- if you back out for any reason, then you don't have to. You would probably have to find another agency to work with if you wanted to do it again... unless your agency supported your reason for backing out. Sometimes the parents just turn crazy and you have to cut ties.

Afterward- In the contract they have designated people to take over custody if something were to happen like a plane crash and both parents die. If those people were to also back out, I'm not totally sure what would happen. I'm in no way legally responsible though.

Makes sense.

I wonder what the percentage of parents turning crazy is...I imagine it can be a nerve-raking experience.

Surrogates can choose who they work with and who they don't.... many refuse to work with straight couples because they say the moms are just micromanagement and crazy. I can imagine after years of doing everything possible to get pregnant, wanting to make sure that everything goes exactly how you want it. I'm sure there's also some jealously there sometimes.

My IM (intended mom) isn't like though. She never went through the years of trying/miscarriages. She had a partial hysterectomy in her early 20s and knew this was something she was going to do for a long time.

I would think that this is the reason for the money being set in escrow or a fund. That way the money is a guarantee and you never need to worry about the intended parents backing out and leaving you without the funds once you are already pregnant.

Yes, also the main reason people choose an agency over working Indy. The bills are already covered and something can't just suddenly pop up where the parents can't take care of their responsibility and leave you hanging.

Her egg retrieval was today! So them embryo will be 3 days old when we transfer. Not sure yet how many eggs they received, but she had 7 follicles which is not great, but not bad :)

Also means I started my BIG shots today... ouch!

How many fertilized eggs do they implant at a time and what are the chances of multiple implantation's?

It depends. Every Dr. is different. The absolute most this Dr. will do is 3 and that is only if all 3 are what they considered "poor" quality, so hopefully one will attach... then also if all 3 happen to attach then it's OK to carry triplets.

Normally they prefer to do 1-2.

Last time they got 4 eggs, 3 fertilized, and only 1 was still growing by the 3rd day so only 1 (but it was a very high quality one) was transferred and the transfer failed.

This time I was just informed that once again 3 have been fertilized. I'll know a few hours before the transplant how many, and what quality they are.

I really hope we get 2 good ones to transfer this time to get us some better odds, but we'll see.

It's not uncommon in some cases (especially if is a young donor) to get many eggs and 10 or 12 fertilized. In that case they freeze the remaining very strong ones for further tries down the road.

All 3 emmbies made it to transfer day! We decided to go ahead and transfer all 3 because of her age and the extreme unlikeliness of any multiples. They all looked great! Two "10s" and one "9". So now we wait for 2 weeks to go get a blood test and see if any of them attached. *waits*
