Should the BNP Be Banned?

As a lot of you probably wont know about them, they are a minority political party over here who are basically holocaust denying Nazis who want to kick all non whites out of the country. Unfortunately they have been growing in power thanks to taking advantage of tabloid propaganda, dressing in suits and peoples apathy about the main parties after the expenses row/ pisstake when MPs were found to be claiming expenses on the most stupid of things, right down to a pot noodle (I kid you not!)

I know both the UK and the USA are champions of free speech but over here it's a bit more selective (and I'm glad too) Those religious nutters you get protesting at soldiers funerals would be arrested for inciting homophobic hatred over here. You are not allowed to go around, by law, in this country slagging off people for their sexuality or race...which I find it unbelivable that the BNP are allowed to stand in elections, as that is what they do. Thoughts?

Haha! I look forward to an American perspective on this though. I'm sick of hearing thick Brits championing them without looking into what they are all about. They remind me, seriously of how the Nazis got in power in Germany and I do find it worrying because we all know how that turned out.

Sorry have to pull you up on something there, the BNP are nothing like the Nazis, the Nazi party never had any problems with blacks or other minorities bar jews and gypsies living within their countries! In fact this is proved by the fact that within Hitlers upper chain of command there were at least 2 openly gay men, Ernst Rohm and Adolf Axemans Ajudant, can't remember his name though! Although they did endorse the Aryan race, there was nothing to say other types of people could not live in Nazi germany, South African boxer Robbie Lebrandtt for example!

The fact that the BNP want to keep Britain for the british is stupid and single minded! With the right leader, and a shift in policies the BNP could distance itself from all of the bad press and actually be good for this country!

Have you read about that night when the Nazis slaughtered a load of their top ranking guys, some for being gay, two were actually caught in bed together. Was a severe embarresment for them.

Any party with a shift in policy could be good for our country. Unfortunately, the BNP would need a huge turnaround. Even forgetting their racist terrorism, their policies are a joke. Their economic policies don't add up to even my simple mind on economics and would make Gordon Brown look like the greatest economist who ever lived. Not to mention their ridiculous policies of bringing back the death penalty - but only for people who deserve it! (wtf) and wanting to stop our kids learning German and French language in school and only letting them learn the dead language of Welsh. Not forgetting how them pulling us out of trade with Europe and the rest of the world would see us ending up resembling Somalia or something.

As for the BNP yes they are a joke atm, mainly down to nick griffin, but if they became a coherent party with none-racist policies and a decent leader they would stand a good chance of getting in!

Unfortunately through their propaganda, they have already gained a few seats in local elections and due to the expenses scandal and people losing faith in main parties, they look likely to gain some more. Their supporters are political zealouts who will show up for any kind of election while apathy for the main parties keeps people away from the polling booths, only about 40% of the population voted in the last EU election and our government wasn't nearly as fucked up then. There are also already countries in Eastern Europe who have a good representation from Nazi parties and the BNP being able to band together with them will only stregnthen them.

Nick Griffin is one of the few to get caught out because he leads the party and is high profile. I have heard a lot about their thuggery on the underground, nothing can be proved but its funny how a lot of people who have spoken out against the BNP have had their homes attacked by fire bombs and the like shortly afterwards.

V for Vendetta... (a story based on Germany winning WWII). We have a Nazi party and pro Nazi skin heads in the U.S. You have to allow them but you can keep them on a short leash when it comes to actions they take against society in general.

I see your point though. If this kind of party became powerful enough, (I might imagine them as an extreme Republican Party , :jk) it could upset the apple cart in any country. Not a simple solution because banning the party would not mean they would go away.

Isn't this the Nazi Lowriders and the like who are responsible for loads of murders in the US? I fail to see any kind of leash the US has kept them on. Yes I know there are other gangs too, usually race related (Mexican Mafia ect) and from what I've heard, free speech has alowed this gangs to run loose to such a point, they are really, actually cults. They dont give a fuck about any sentence the law can give them because it's easy compared to the revenge the gangs will enact on them. It's probably too late now for the US to put in place the same policies as the UK because your gangs are too powerful. We on the other hand have the chance to nip it in the bud before it gets that out of hand.

Personally, whilst I don't agree with any of their policies on race (do they have any others?) I would not deny any party the right to stand in our country.

Simply put, anything driven underground gains an audience and gains interest because people are just like that. 'Relax' would never have made number 1 had the BBC not banned it and made everyone think 'oh man let me check this out'.

If we keep them out in the open they have to explain their policies and they have to answer the questions they're not comfortable answering. And as bad as we think it is over here, extreme politics to the left or right only tend to prosper when nations are desperate. And we may have a bit of a downslump going on....but we're no post 1st World War Germany yet

Good point, one I would agree with if it wasn't for stupid people voting for them without understanding wtf it is they are voting for. This probably sounds quite radical but I'd like to see people have to pass a test on politics before they are allowed to vote. Then again that would cost far too much so wouldn't work either. Guess democracy actually is pretty flawed but there isn't a lot better out there either.
