Should teachers be allowed to carry guns in schools?

I'm a high school teacher. I've been trained in firearms but currently don't own one. If I thought it necessary I would purchase one and bring it to school. Most teachers I know probably would not.

I didn't read every post, but:

Despite Zorak's shrill panicky posts, I doubt a thorough search would find more than a couple of teachers eager to bring a gun to school just so they can shoot a student or two, if only the district would give them permission.

GW's argument that since we can't give every teacher a gun we shouldn't allow any at all is just dumb on the face of it. Anything that can trim the odds of a shooter taking a child's life is worth considering.

I don't follow. But exaggerating the truth in a serious discussion debate topic for any purpose other than metaphorical is never good.

Don't start to tell me what I am or am not debating about. I'm not exaggerating the truth. Things like this can and might happen. It was crazy many years ago to think that students would want to shoot up a school, but it happens. You don't know the people on here well enough to tell them how to debate, since you're not doing a great job on it yourself.

I don't know about you, but I have a reason to be.

don't over exaggerate.

When you can tell me I look like a noob whilst adhering to proper grammar rules, I will listen. Until then, keep it to yourself.

I didn't say you look like a 'noob' i said you look like a fool..there's a big difference :) read the grammer. 'Noob' would be proper forum language.

Now, get your last word in whatever it may be, it's all yours. Then can we please get back on topic?

I help run the place, so I'll put my words in where I see fit :D

I don't think it's dumb. Teachers won't be trained as well as police, as to what they should do in a situation like this. And if they had to be, I can almost garuntee no teachers would get guns.

I just think more guns, will equal more violence. And people with the other guns, like teachers, will accidently do worse, then they would do good.

This explains a lot...when you go through more schooling, you'll understand what goes on more in the real world. give it some time.

Sorry, but, I disagree, for obvious reasons. But telling a teen in high school they don't have enough knowledge about high school teachers is a bit outrageous.

Young people can be right too sometimes, and they always should have their opinions looked upon in a valid way :thumbdown

And this is why I never want to become an adult. They think that just because they're a bit older than the rest of us they're oh so wise, and oh so knowledgeable, and oh so right about everything.

not every adult thinks that. that's not what i was trying to say when I asked you that question

but by saying you don't want to grow up you kind of sound like a kid.

I was referring to the quoted post, not yours. I didn't say every adult thought like that.

I don't mean it literally, I was being dramatic.
ok i figured ;)

just letting you know that's not what I meant.

I agree with Goat. She's a teen too.

Yall both have valid opinions.

I still disagree with most of yours in this thread, but you have a right to them.

... I'm no more ignorant than you on this subject.

Actually no...seeing that I'm 10 years older than you are, I would say I know more about the subject, I have more experience in life than you do, especially knowing what's out in the world. And that's the best thing about becoming an adult is you begin to know more and experience more everyday.

o idk.

Ever played the campaign mode on CoD: MW2?
If you have, you know which level I'm talking about. If you haven't, then terrorists is the answer.

For fucks sake, this world is not ideal. Shit happens, the more tools you have to deal with that shit increases the chances of that shit not shitting everything up.

You know, that's just a game, right? If there's any reason why modern shooting games don't serve as fear-inducing propaganda, this would be it.

A little context please. I know you may be a kid, but understand, it's a GAME.

That just doesn't happen.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOL "you can't compare cops and teachers - their jobs are not the same.
do you want teachers to behave like cops? then send your kid to military school or something."

And why not, exactly. Are they not the same species? Do they not, on average, have the same temperament? Stinkiest argument I've seen in a while...

Occupationally speaking, you cannot compare a Police Officer with a Teacher. It's quite silly that you would even attempt to.

How do you know more about the subject? Just wondering. Saying you're older doesn't automatically mean you know more.

Experience in life =/= common sense.
How does you being ten years older than me make your argument or your knowledge on the subject of gun laws any more effective than mine?

Uhh, hate to burst your bubble here, but kids learn and experience more every day as well...

lol oh hun, i'm not arguing with you about guns, I guess you forgot what we were arguing about.
We weren't talking about gun laws, you and I. Anywho, you may learn and experience...but I have +10 years on you for that.:)

I wish people would say that they know more about shit because they have a degree, IN THAT SUBJECT, or have studied guns or something, over "I'm older then you, so I'm right!!!" Sounds like a 12 year old talking to an 8 year old, rather then a 26 year old talking to a 16 year old.

if you are referring to what I said, I wasn't talking to you....so you should stay out of it :) Okay, since we own guns, I majored in guns and minored in bullets. I'm sick and tired of kids trying to act like adults and act like they know more. Everyone has a lot of growing up to do IMO.

some "children" are more mature than some "adults"
and some "children" have more knowledge in subjects than "adults"

and this was on open discussion so bri can respond to whatever she likes.
