So at one of my congress rounds in debate, a 'senator' brought up that we ought to let licensed teachers carry guns in schools. So if a student ever brought a gun to school or if some guy tried to come in and take the class hostage, the teacher could protect himself and the students.

I disagreed with this bill, I'll say why later, but what do you guys think?

And so, you're point is...? Yes they should?
VA Tech had (and still have) a rule that fire arms are completely banned from any person except law enforcement. This liberal, naive belief system, in my opinion, led to the deaths of far more many innocent lives. Had even the faculty been allowed to carry fire arms, it is possible that the cretin would never have even thought about planning his assault.

I have no problems with it. A person who has taken the time and effort to procure a CCW has proven themselves trustworthy. On top of that if they were intent of doing harm, they'd just bring their weapon and start shooting....

And depending on the police, never forget the images of the police at Columbine surrounding the school and staring inward while those two crazies killed more and more people....

I'm against it for a number of reasons.
-It's way too dangerous, kids can steal guns and misuse it
-It's very rare that a student/guy would come to school with a gun
-Police men should be in that school and they should be the ones with guns because it's their job to protect the school.
-Teachers can go wacko sometimes

in fifth grade my teacher picked a student up by the neck and slammed him against the wall where he continued to choke the student almost to death

right infront of all of our fifth grade eyes. Some of us thought we were next. Some of us thought the others had it coming.

But all in still - a teacher is still human.

Well I'll respond for where I live. No they shouldn't because there is no need and they should be subject to the same laws as everyone else.

I'm ok with it, but only on the condition that they go through the EXACT same firearms training as cops at the police academy and they're forced to qualify to police standards on the range yearly.

:homo:

Needless deaths could have been saved in both Columbine & Virginia if someone in charge had had a gun and wasn't afraid to use it.

That said, it's freaking sad that the need even exists........:(

Once again, an armed society is a polite society.

Slamming a kid up against a wall is much different than shooting him. Plus, I'm sure this is more than slightly exaggerated.

The point of my post was to say that teachers are human and lose their temper. So why should we allow them to have guns? They are far from perfect.

And why would you assume it is more than slightly exaggerated since you don't know me or my posting style. I DO NOT exaggerate or tell lies for entertainment. And is it that far fetched that something like this would happen? NO.

This did happen as I said. Thank you.

If you're gonna go there, the standards need to be more stringent. Some police standards for firearms competence are absurdly low. :thumbdown

I'm just struggling to see how bring more guns in to school will make it any safer. Say some kid comes in with one and starts firing it about. What's the teacher going to do? Pull his out and start firing back while hundreds of panicking screaming kids are running about? Sounds much more likely to cause more damage to me.

:) how very nice and european of you to ask such a wonderful question...and i mean that sincerely.

Americans like their guns.

Do cops in the UK even carry guns? I thought they carried bobby sticks or something?

There's a prison in Louisiana that is run without guns. There's not a single fire arm on the grounds.

Well said Peter. That is my concern. How would the police know, were that to happen, that the teacher is not the assailant and shoot them in the belief they were protecting the kids? It's a situation ripe for serious mistakes.

I also noted above that someone said there is a possibility a kid could get ahold of the teacher's gun. That is of great concern to me as well.

Most cops over here dont carry guns though it's getting more common. They do at airports ect but guns are mainly used by specialist units.
