I think being Jewish is a null point... In America it's a common practice. My family is Episcopalian and I was circumcized

It's just that for Jews it is a religious requirement. It is just a tradition for Christians, not a requirement. In fact, Apostle Paul was probably up in heaven (if there is one) praying that the surgeon's knife would slip while you were being circumcised and cut off the whole thing. Not a nice man!

Anyway I agree that it's a null point in the sense that there shouldn't be religious exemptions. It should be banned until age 18 for both religious and traditional reasons.

I don't think she was trying to make a point. She's just curious why he would circumcise his son.

Why?

Whats your reasoning FOR...you've heard all ours against....just curious is all.

Are you Jewish?

Not Jewish, I plan on having it done for my child because

1. I just think it looks better
2. There is evidence to suggest that there could be health benefits from it
3. The majority of Americans have the procedure done, I don't want him to grow up being different from all the other guys

Scientifically collected probably :D

There's evidence for both sides that either circumcised or not, there's health benefits. But who knows, so many other things can affect susceptibility to diseases and penile functioning besides just the skin that covers it.

I'm not saying that there are definitely benefits to it, I'm just saying that there could be, you know I don't take studies too seriously. As far as I know there are no drawbacks to the procedure if it is peformed correctly, and since it is possible that they could benefit from it I see no reason not to, it looks better(IMO), it's more hygienic, and there are potential health benefits, sounds like a win on all levels to me.

I don't think it should be banned... but I think parents should really consider what's best got the kid. Socially, it's clear that if you're born in the US of Canadia, it would be in your child's best interest to be circumcised. Just don't try and make any other excuse for it tho ;)

In answer to Retro's question, I support the right of adoption.

If the only valid reason for doing it is because everyone else is doing it then why not ban it until age 18? For then, no one else would be doing it either except for Jews when they reached the age of consent. Of course, I might be surprised... maybe some guys would choose it.

Thankyou. :)

Yeah I was thinking the same. Penises vary person to person, meaning that the circumcision operation isn't 'standardised'. How can it be performed properly?

The same is true for EVERY operation Kimmy, by that logic there are no "standardized" operations, everyone's body is different, so by that logic no operation can really be performed "properly".

The only guy I was with who had premature ejaculation was the one who was circumcised actually. He also got thrush and was terrible in bed.

What does aborting a baby have to do with cutting off a foreskin? Or have I completely missed something?

I think he thinks it hypocritical to say that Since a child can't consent that it's wrong for a parent to choose to have their foreskin removed for them, but at the same time believe that it's perfectly ok to choose to end a babies life before it even has the chance to be born.

Would anyone agree with me that that's a straw man? Or something of the like?

I don't think it's relevant :)

it is relevant when you're talking about fundamental human rights.

The issue for many is that foreskin removal violates the baby's rights.

The contradiction comes that if you think the above is true, but agree with abortion, how is ok to violate the baby's right to life, yet not ok to violate the baby's right of body?
