I have a tendancy to not bend when I believe in something strongly. That's why I started replying to this thread. I only have faith on my side, so that's all I have to offer. My proof is personal, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Omg...lol. I didn't say that, I was referring to what YOU said about ME. You say that I am closed minded.....my point is that if you won't budge to MY side of the debate, then doesn't that make you just as closed minded as you think I am?

Is that better? Are you able to understand what I meant now? Should I keep trying?

Yes I AM sure, I hope that one day you can say the same. I don't really care about who's right and who's wrong, to me that's neither here nor there, I'm just saying that there IS a God.....to me, that's just plain fact.

Yes, I'm sure that in Sadie world, simply believing in something is called proof, in the real world it isn't.
But feel free to carry on getting arsey with people and repeating the same thing over and over again, it really adds substance to a debate. :sarcasm

Personally, the known, a loving caring parent deity and the notion of living forever is very comforting. I hope you are right, but you could be mistaken. There could be an alternate reality that you didn't even think of that could be just as wonderful or dreadful. Insisting there is absolutely no chance that you are wrong, just proves that you are not interested in the truth, only what makes you feel good. So there is a way to live your life and never worry about "after". ;)

Mostly the problem I have with this kind of logic, is how people use it (not talking about you Sadie) to manipulate or delude themselves into making really bad choices, for example when a world leader uses "God told me" or I know "God wants this" or the worst, "God is on our side" as an excuse to go to start a trumped up war. I repeat I'm not saying you, Sadie, are making bad life decisions based on your religion. However, IMO the brain is too much of a trickster to rely on holy revelations. Despite this, I feel spiritual. I just start arguing when people claim to know all the God specifics. :)

Number one it's not "proof" in any accepted form. Call it faith and your good to go. Number two, it might exist and it might not. :p

I wouldn't be much of a christian if I doubted God even existed, now would I? Like I've mentioned before, I've questioned His decisions and His motives but never have I ever questioned His existance.....that IS my truth. I'd be a hypocrite if I said one minute that God exists and then in another breath, wonder if there's a possibility that He doesn't.

I quite agree, and this is my suspicion regarding the god concept in general, as well as the reason I am a skeptic. Most humans want to feel happy and safe and protected in one way or another, and we are not above creating the things we want by any means necessary.

Considering that a huge percentage of this world agrees with me I wouldn't exactly call it 'sadie's' world, but if you want to then fill your boots Peter. The next line you seem to have repeated so I guess it holds no substance either.

Again, stop talking of "truth" and "proof" and instead lean on "faith".

We are very much in tune on this subject. :)

Where's your proof that He DOESN'T exist? And I'm talking actual proof here, not the totally stereotypical kind that most people just consider to be proof.

I don't think anyone is saying that they have proof that he doesn't exist, but the onus would be on the person saying he does to prove it. I mean I could say that goblins exist and you couldn't prove that they don't.

This is what I would say, as well.

Ironic in that what your calling proof/truth does not even meet that level. :p

I've never ever spoken of proof as in having any, so there is no requirement on me. As the one using the word, the responsibility is upon you to use it correctly, and what you speak of is not proof period. BTW I don't say he does not exist, but I question he/she/it exists in the form theists specifically sell because there is no proof, only faith, which is just a good feeling.

To you, it's nothing but a good feeling, to me, it's reality.

I like toast and I'm a big fan of gold, but I don't pray to tiny gold filled toasters....do you?

So if I pray to toasters filled with gold, that's proof that they exist? Gotcha!

Our father, toasters filled with gold,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
in heaven as on earth

Amen!

There you go! Toasters filled with gold orbiting the earth do exist because I just prayed to them and you can't prove that they dont exist. :thumbup
