Bolton beat Villa 2-1 at Villa Park. That 12/1 I took on Villa to go down a while back is looking good now. £120

Also, with the chance that Chelsea will win the Champions League, and the other chance the 4th place team won't be Chelsea, that means the 4th placed team will not go into the Champions League. The worst part is they know until May 19th. If you finish 4th and then Chelsea win the Cl, it'd be like getting the biggest kick in the bollocks ever.

The thought of Liverpool slipping into the abyss of 'The Football League' (outside the Premier League) would bring laughter and ridicule from all corners of English football's elite (United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton etc etc) but at the same time it'd be like an earthquake when Liverpool have to play second-tier football. We're, currently, on the verge of doing a Leeds United here and I'd hate to see that happen but I've also got a feeling that we'll bounce back and get back on track, not to win the league, but contend for a place in the Champions League.

Can't express how much I'm looking forward to the game against Wolves tomorrow. We drew 2-2 against them in October but now they're relegated and we're playing against our old goal keeper De Vrise. Couldn't be any better! As unlikely as it is (we'd have to win with a lot of goals and other results would have to go our way) we have the possibility to move 4 places up the table tomorrow into 8th place. Hah! It's going to be a great weekend in the league, I think =)

I don't see why De Vrise shouldn't start, give him game time against a team that's relegated, but have a strong team around him or maybe mix one or two youngsters/fringe players in to give them game-time and experience.

Very high scoring day in the Premier League. Wigan massacre Newcastle 4-0 at the DW, Stoke and Arsenal share a 1-1 draw, Everton beat Fulham 4-0, Bolton get a handy point at Sunderland, Wolves come from 3-0 and 4-1 down to draw 4-4 at Swansea and West Brom draw 0-0 at home to Aston Villa. What it means is Arsenal don't really suffer for drawing at Stoke because of Newcastle's loss, and Newcastle could be as low as sixth by Wednesday night. Everton increase their lead on Liverpool. Blackburn could be relegated next week should they lose to Spurs tomorrow and then Wigan next week, and other results go against them.

It's not so much that, I mean you couldn't really spend £15m on one player at Wigan because the money lost if it doesn't work out would be very bad financially, it's a case of spend low + get players who do a job = success, because even if it doesn't work out, it doesn't matter as much because they didn't spend much in the first place. Observe....

Charles N'Zogbia - cost Wigan £7m (highest ever transfer for them) - Did a good job - Sold to Aston Villa at a profit at £9.5m

That's good business. They did even better with Antonio Valencia.

In summary Wigan COULD afford to give Roberto Martinez £30m to spend, but that's not Wigan's way. It's sensible financial planning. They also play some nice football and do contribute to the Premier League, so it'd be nice if they stayed up.

It's evidence of what giving a manager time and faith can reap. Especially if you can't just go out and buy the missing parts to the puzzle of your team. Finding that system which works, drilling your players in it etc etc

Sometimes though, having said that, a chairman has to step in and stop the rot. It's a fine balance. Martinez is getting it right now, but earlier on in the season, he was being publicly criticized, and rightly so, by his boss.

Generally Wigan's main problem has been, because they have sold their higher end players every Summer, settling into the next season. Every season they've managed to stay up but it's a problem, especially when the replacement players haven't always worked out (like Di Santo etc). I'd honestly expect Victor Moses to leave them in the Summer. But if they can get £8m-£10m for him, that's good.

I do like Martinez as a manager and a man, he comes across as knowledgeable and Swansea also have a lot to thank him for for turning their play around to the like we see today. He did well to not go to Villa because, while hindsight is a wonderful thing, I don't think he wouldn't really have improved himself.

Blackburn could go down next Monday at home to Wigan. For it to happen they'd have to lose to Spurs tomorrow and either Bolton or QPR win either of their next games, if they then lose to Wigan, they'd be down. That isn't that unlikely.

Bugger, well I managed to watched the goal on YouTube and how badly he would of been blasted if it of missed. I think he had plenty of time to get closer.
