I've come to terms with the fact that you are polar opposite of me and we will never agree...I guess the world is going to come to an end because I think murderers and child molesters should be put to death
yeah that just makes society murders so if you think thats justice, well...

No, no, no! That violates their civil rights! Everyone is entitled to a 12-year appeals process at least! You're evil! The death penalty makes you a hypocrite! You're barbaric!

[/All Else Failed]
glad to see you're finally seeing the light, because everything you just said is 100% true.

Murderers give up their rights as a human being the moment they kill someone.
Rapists loose all priviledges as soon as they rape someone
Child molesters should loose all that and their genitals, hands and feet after abusing a child.

*grabs giant axe and barbaric helmet*
AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH
not legally.

its such a great example to society when we just kill people that....kill....am I right? Wait, theres really no difference.

But is it also a great example to society when you allow killers and molesters and rapists have free rein over the institutions that are supposed to be there for their punishment? Let's have one of them murder your father, or how about rape your sister, then see how sympathetic you are towards them....

Not to sound harsh, but I mean come on, are we punishing them or coddling them as if they were toddlers??

I in NO WAY think that people such as rapists and murderers should have an easy time in jail, they should be locked up in maximum security cells, so they DO NOT have "free reign" over any institution. I just believe that it is a very BAD idea for the state to have the ability to say who can die and who can live. Being in prison isn't coddling them at all.

You say it's not. The woman who has worked there for years says it is.

Working in the prison system I can tell you all EXACTLY what your tax dollars are going for....

Inmates get to buy things from the commisary, things such as a pair of Timberland boots that we pay $150 out here for they only pay $15......a pair of New Balance tennis shoes that we pay $70 out here for, they pay $10....they get BIG discounts on cigarrettes, food, television sets, drinks, toiletries and just about anything else you can think of. And the ones who have no one to send them money, the state picks up their tabs and gives them an allowance so they aren't left out either! They sit in front of numerous flat screen television sets watching cable all day long while you all are out busting your asses to pay taxes for THEIR upkeep. Some of you say that you are against the death penalty? Well, that's all well and good, but do you really want an extra 150,000 "children" to take care of every year? These guys and girls are getting shit for FREE that you can't even afford to BUY for your own children!

Just some food for thought......

I'll take Boxer's opinion on this one.

If the punishment for murder is death, and then you murder someone YOU made the decision and not the state. Simple as that. If your life is precious and your existence is worthy then don't commit crimes that would put you on death row. Too fucking simple.

Not that simple.

The state should deal with criminals in a way that does not reflect their OWN crime. To do this is so hypocritical its mind boggling. We are no better than the murderer if we murder him back, don't you see that? he only difference between a murderer and a jury that sentences a murderer to be killed, is the number of people who do the premeditation.

Why would you commit murder knowing the consequences?

That is the real issue to me. All the bleeding heart crap leads me to think that you miss the essential ingredient. IF you knew full well you could be put to death for your crimes, don't you think it would slow it down?

But it doesn't. I bet if your child was raped and murdered you would be singing a different tune.

Alright then. What if you kidnap someone and hold them against their will until you're caught and arrested. You go to jail, where you are held against your will. By your definition, that's hypocritical.

Let the kidnappers go! The best way to punish them is let them be free! We're no better than a kidnapper if we hold them against their will!

People murder for different reasons, whether its hate, passion, or due to a mental condition. Their motivation shouldn't matter though when considering the punishment.

What I say is not "bleeding heart". Its pointing out the hypocrisy. Think about it:

"He killed a man! How awful! So lets kill him back to prove that killing is wrong!"

See how ridiculous that is? All killing does it beget more violence, and more violence seeps into our society. Lets deal with things WITHOUT violence, and maybe, just maybe we can prove that we can deal with things in America without knocking heads off and leave them to roll about on our flawed court system floors.

Oh but mental state, and CULPABLE MENTAL STATE has to be proven to obtain the death penalty. Statistically you have a better chance of landing somebody with life in prison than death. It is not an easy case.

You make it sound like the death penalty is being handed down to traffic violaters.

Hey, you have to make room for more inmates somehow, I say the death penalty helps that. Besides we all want more prisons....Just not in our back yards right?
