an ipad cant run multiple applications and its expensive as hell

that is a novelty for the rich and uninformed

What is your definition of expensive as hell? It starts at $499 and will have multitasking this fall.

I'll look into it of course. IS it expensive?

Check it out here. It's made by Apple the leader in innovative electronics.

So guys......what should I do?

I'm very pro Apple and anti-Windows. I own both so I know of what I speak. If you are looking for a good fully functional computer for your daughter, MacBooks start at $999. She will have achieved cool status with her school mates. The iPad is more for casual browsing, email, reading, and casual gaming. If you are thinking of school work, the MacBook would be a better option. You will never ever go wrong with the Mac Operating System. Windows by comparison is a piece of work. I say this with no exaggeration. The MacBook will run circles around your average Netbook. Go to any Apple Store. They are always packed and for good reason. :)

Macbook.

just know this, I disagree with you because there is nothing innovative about the ipad. its just a giant ipod touch and should not be compared to a computer

Your daughter will receive the same functionality out of a dell than she would out of an ibook especially if shes only in high school. unless shes majoring in design right now she has no use for an over priced apple product

they are packed because their computers are free to use and dont kick you off after an hour like the library does. no one ever buys anything

When it comes to Netbooks, I feel very comfortable saying that you get what you pay for. If you decide to go with a Windows based Netbook, see how much RAM they come with. If you are running a full version of Windows, you need at least 2GB RAM just to adequately run the OS. I believe Apple does offer a student discount, but I can't off the top of my head tell you how much. But if you decide to go with Windows, no hard feelings. :)

Lol, now that is a funny statement. Obviously you don't spend much time in Apple stores. You anti-Mac types should read the PC World iPad article before you spout. :D

you do realize that almost the exact same technology is in both?

The point being?

So, if I decide to go with the netbook, as long as it has 2gb of ram or more it would suffice?

I am not anti-Mac. I am anti-Mac users

instead of telling her the benefits of buying cheap laptop for her daughter to enjoy, you are pressuring her into dropping more money than is needed for a high school student to enjoy a computer

Oh come on dude. I'm just giving her good advice. You may very much regret owning and operating a Windows based Netbook. People have gone Windows for ages based on one thing, they are cheaper. No argument there, but historically that is the only thing going for them if you want to discuss a no issue OS. That's a fact. I'm going to step away from this discussion because I all ready see where it's headed. :p

in both what?

a smart phone, an i pad, a laptop,e-book reader,calculators etc.

Computer: (n) A device that computes, especially a programmable electronic machine that performs high-speed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles, stores, correlates, or otherwise processes information
The point being?

my point was simply that you can compare an ipad to a laptop to a smart phone etc. the technology is there,..they are just designed/meant for different uses/functions.
